Dothan City Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Monday, October 12, 2026, due to severe weather impacts that have left several roads impassable throughout the area. The decision was made with the safety of students, staff and families as the district’s top priority. Current road conditions present transportation and safety concerns that prevent the district from safely resuming normal school operations.

District officials will continue working with the City of Dothan and monitoring conditions and will announce a decision regarding school operations for Tuesday, October 13, by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12. Families and staff are encouraged to monitor the district’s official communication channels, including the DCS website, mass notification system, and social media pages for updates.

Dothan City Schools appreciates the patience and understanding of our families, staff, and community as we navigate the impacts of severe weather.

WE’RE MAKING PROGRESS, WIREGRASS! 💡

At the peak of Hurricane Isaias, approximately 18,000 meters were without power. That number has now dropped to approximately 8,000!

💚 That’s roughly 10,000 meters restored!

While there’s still much work ahead, our WEC linemen and assisting crews continue working as quickly and safely as possible.

Hurricane Update – Geneva County Schools

Good afternoon, Geneva County Schools families!

We hope that all of our students, employees, and families are safe following the hurricane. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in our community as we begin the recovery process.

We are currently assessing all of our schools and facilities for storm damage. At this time, all of our schools are without power, and we have sustained some damage. Thankfully, none of the damage appears to be severe, and we are extremely grateful that our facilities were spared from major structural damage.

🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨

As we work to protect our food supplies and prepare our schools for reopening, we have an immediate need for the following:

* A 12,000-watt (12 kW) generator to operate a refrigeration unit.

* Large generators to power our lunchroom freezers.

* Refrigerated re**er trucks or trailers that can be used to move and temporarily store frozen food until power is restored.

We are incredibly thankful that our schools were spared significant damage, and most importantly, we pray that our students, employees, and families are safe.

We understand that families and employees need time to plan for the upcoming week. We will continue monitoring power restoration, road conditions, and the safety of our facilities throughout the weekend. A decision regarding whether Geneva County Schools will reopen on Monday will be made and communicated no later than 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
