BREAKING: Walmart agrees to extend minimum wage increase ($11 an hr) to ALL employees in Puerto Rico, announces Governor Ricardo Rossello
3 hours ago we tweeted that the Gov was asking Walmart to reconsider its position. It didn't take long.
In a statement, released Saturday night, Walmart announced:
“As we have demonstrated consistently throughout our 25 year history in Puerto Rico, Walmart is deeply committed to Puerto Rico and our local associates and as part of the bonus announcement made earlier this week, eligible Walmart and Sam’s Club hourly associates on the island will be receiving nearly $5 million in cash bonuses as well as expanded maternity and parental leave benefits that are beyond what is typically offered in retail. Additionally, the starting wage for all Walmart and Sam’s Club hourly associates in Puerto Rico will be at least $11 per hour beginning with the February 17 pay cycle.”
