Our Story

The band formed as Troy University Dothan Community Band in 1990 under Tony Whetstone from the remnants of the Wiregrass Civic Band. From that time to present day the annual rehearsal and perfomance cycle has continued with annual Holiday, Spring and Summer concerts. Made up entirely of volunteers from throughout the community, the Troy Dothan Community Band is open to all instrumental musicians, regardless of skill level or experience. Concerts are free to the public, and at least four performances are given annually. Past muscial directors of the group include Tony Whetstone, Larry Smith, Andy Fariss, the late Dr. James Choate, and James Holmes. Patrick Lord is the current music director as of Spring 2019.

Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 6pm - 8pm in the Houston Academy band room.
