Bodily autonomy doesn't justify killing an innocent human being. Being pro-woman and pro-life means refusing to pit a mother’s well-being against her child’s right to live; instead, we must care for both and do what we can to protect them from harm.

The death of the death penalty is possible. Systems of justice ought to be based on the inherent dignity of the human person — the dignity of both the offender and the offended. Rather than ensuring a balance of harm, we should seek to make amends and generate positive outcomes.

"Some people would argue, as I did in my original article, that the Consistent Life Ethic should encompass opposition only to direct killing, such as abortion and the death penalty. Others would argue the Consistent Life Ethic should include subtler, more indirect injustices that nevertheless can still end people’s lives, such as poverty, racism, ableism, and xenophobia."
