Good food, great people, and a BLA story worth knowing.

Meet Tambo Barrow and Venus Barrow, proud Boston Latin Academy graduates and the founders of Bred Gourmet. Tambo is the chef behind the smoked gourmet burger concept that's grown from a passion project into a multi-location brand known for bold flavors and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a regular from day one. Venus brings her background in HR and organizational strategy to shape how BRED shows up in the world beyond the kitchen.

Together, they've built something rooted in quality, community, and showing up fully in whatever they do.

And on May 28th, they're opening BRED's doors to welcome fellow Boston Latin Academy and GLS alumni for Alumni Night — an evening of good people, good music, and a good cause as we gear up for 150th anniversary.

Organized by Gavin Smith, Head of School at Boston Latin Academy, this mixer is bringing alumni together to reconnect and kick off new fundraising efforts to support school programs as we approach BLA's 150th anniversary.

Another city championship for the Dragons! Our boys volleyball team took down O'Bryant 3-1 to capture the 2026 Boston City Championship. It was a total team effort — the Dragons dug deep in the third and fourth sets to finish strong and bring home the title. Big congratulations to game MVP Tri Duong and the entire squad. Let's go Dragons!

A huge shout out to the boys volleyball who defeated O’Bryant by a score of 3-1 to capture the 2026 Boston City Championship title. It was a true team effort, with the Dragons rallying in the third and fourth set to seal the victory. Tri Duong was named the games MVP. Let’s go Dragons!!!

Dragon pride is off the charts! This past weekend, our baseball, softball, and girls outdoor track and field teams each earned Boston City Championship titles. Four city championships in one spring — what a statement from Boston Latin Academy! Huge congratulations to everyone involved. Go Dragons!

What an incredible achievement! Congratulations to our very own Pietro Waterman, Boston Latin Academy's valedictorian, who was celebrated at the valedictorian's luncheon sponsored by Boston Public Schools with Head of School Gavin Smith. This fall, Pietro will continue making us proud at Harvard University. We can't wait to see what's ahead for you, Pietro!

When we say BLA alumni are out here making moves, we mean it. Meet Essmaa Litim, proud Boston Latin Academy graduate and your host for Alumni Night on May 28th. Essmaa is an award-winning spoken word artist, author, cultural curator, and marketing strategist. She was voted Spoken Word Artist of the Year at the 2025 Boston Music Awards and recognized as an Extraordinary Woman by the City of Boston in 2023. Her voice has reached stages and platforms including TEDx, PUMA, Moderna, WGBH, and the Women's Leadership Conference at Gillette Stadium.

A Bentley University graduate with over 8 years of marketing experience, Essmaa is currently pursuing her Master of Public Health while using storytelling as a tool for healing and cultural impact. She is the author of Speechless (2021), with her second book centered on Afro-Arab identity coming late 2026.

BLA is honored to have her set the tone for an evening of good people, good music, and a good cause as we gear up for BLA's 150th anniversary.
