We had the pleasure of hosting our Design in Practice Seminar on April 11th and May 9th. It’s been a fun and challenging time engaging with our Design Teams on their ideas and processes.

If you’re not familiar with Design in Practice, it functions like a “practicum” for our Design Team members. As the teams actively pursue their design process, these Saturday workshops serve as an opportunity to rigorously engage in the design practice, from divergence through convergence.

This includes everything from inspecting their problem frame, to getting insights from divergent thinkers, to materializing their ideas with rapid prototyping.

*This seminar is open to participants enrolled in a Design Team.*

This Thursday, the 4th of June, join us for an amazing workshop dubbed Building: Pillow Fort Society.

Here, we’ll explore what it would mean to meet this political moment with softness as safety, and play as resistance. Through sewing and dreaming, come through and see yourself not just as an observer, but as builders, artists, and activators of the spaces around you. We invite you to help create the Pillow Fort Society!

This workshop will be facilitated by an amazing duo - and !

Join us at Momentum Lab from 6 - 9pm.
Venue: 545 Columbia Rd, Dorchester.

May is mental health awareness month, and at DS4SI, we’re keen to take time away as a team, to unwind, re-energize and regroup. Our staff retreats and team visits to museums, are a few examples of how we unwind.

We also take the time to eat together at our meetings and incorporate care as a way of being within the organization. The seemingly simple things add up to More Good Days, Together.

How do you, individually or as a team, take care of your mental health?

We’re throwing it back this Thursday and reminiscing on some incredible collaborations.

Last year, as part of our “20 Questions for 20 Years” celebration, we partnered with Grisha Coleman to curate the Rehearsing and Performing the Everyday theme over the course of a weekend.

Through her artistic and political vision, Grisha invited us to consider why critiquing and reimagining the everyday — and rehearsing new futures together — is so necessary.

Check out and revisit her choreographed performance, Rehearsal for Everyday Life - a piece that highlights the diverse movement approaches and techniques of dancers from across the Boston region.

This reel is just a glimpse. CLICK THE LINK IN OUR BIO to hear Grisha share, in her own words, the thinking and inspiration behind the work.

Last year, as part of our 20 questions for 20 years celebration, we featured a live choreographed performance - Rehearsal for Everyday Life. Curated by Grisha Coleman, this performance highlights the different movement approaches and techniques of dancers across the Boston region.

Seven artists, a short choreography including African, Soca, western modern, breaking, crumping, ballet, and stepping. Together, they rehearsed these vernaculars before performing them collectively.

We’ve had an exciting semester this far interacting with the community sharing and dissecting bold statements that speak to the current times. These are only some of the statements that have spoken to us (there’s many more).

What statement stands out to you? What message speaks to the present or to your reimagined future? Share with us in the comments.

We’re so excited for this Grounding workshop with Tanya Nixon-Silberg, this Thursday, the 21st.

This workshop invites us to gather and slow down through the simple yet powerful act of repairing. Bring something to mend or repair and join us in rehearsing the future we want to live in.

As we stitch and tend to what has been worn or broken, we create space for conversation and reflection, practicing small, collective actions that strengthen the fabric of our communities.

We can’t wait to see you there at Momentum Lab!

2016 vs 2026 - Same but different. Today, we’re reminiscing about what DS4SI was up to around this time in 2016. If you’re an OG, I’m sure you remember these moments.

We’re proud to see the growth and impact that we’ve had in our community, and grateful to everyone who is a part of our family.

What memory stood out for you in 2016 or 2026? Let us know 👇🏾

What happens when we begin to move as one, in a moment when fear and division can make us feel isolated?

This Thursday, May 14th, step into a space where rhythm, movement, voice, and connection come alive. In a world that often pulls us apart, this somatic workshop is an invitation to return to ourselves and to each other.

If you’ve been craving connection, presence, and a moment to simply feel, you do not want to miss this.

Come move with us this Thursday at Momentum Lab.
