Ashmont Adams Neighborhood Association AANA is a civic and social community organization. At our monthly meetings, members are informed on police activity, MBTA updates and other local news.

Our monthly newsletter is delivered to approximately 800 households in the neighborhood between Adams Village and Peabody Square. Ashmont Adams engages in a number of community based events including family oriented activities such as a neighborhood wide block party, a Halloween Pumkin Carving, and astology nights. Community, business, social, and politcal leaders also inform the membership of local opportunities, events, and civic happenings.

Dear friends,

In addition to our monthly newsletters, we wanted bring to your attention these timely events of interest to the neighborhood.

First is the abrupt closing of the Fields Corner Post Office set for the end of the month. District 3 City Councilor John Fitzgerald has created a petition urging the Postmaster and USPS to find another location within Fields Corner for the facility. The link offers the opportunity to donate a small amount to help promote the petition, but it is not required, and is easy to skip.

The councilor also plans on filing a City Council resolution on 10/21 asking his colleagues to support a Fields Corner Post Office.

The Ashmont Adams Annual Oktoberfest and Halloween celebration (flyer attached) is set for Saturday October 31 on Shenandoah Street. If you can help with planning, set up, or cleanup, email us at [email protected].

Greater Ashmont Main Street is planning its annual Holiday Market on November 28. Interested food and crafts vendors can get more info from their web site: https://www.greaterashmont.org/about

Start your holiday shopping early at the Irish Pastoral Centre's Holiday Fair on November 7. Details on the attached poster.

Free carbon monoxide and smoke detectors
On Saturday November 14, city councilors Bryan Worrell and John Fitzgerald will partner with the Boston Fire Department and the American Red Cross in a free carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector installation. Residents can sign up for a free home installation for 10-year battery-powered carbon monoxide / smoke detectors. For additional info contact Councilor Fitzgerald's office at 617-635-3455

For over 150 years, 133 Black women were buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery in two communal graves, with only a marker that reads "Home for Aged Colored Women." Join us for "Give them their Flowers" on Wednesday, September 2 at 5pm while the Boston Women's Heritage Trail reveals their names and honors their lives. There will also be the unveiling of a temporary memorial by artist Ekua Holmes.
