We’re proud to share some exciting news from National Kitten College! 🐾

In September 2025, NKC was awarded a $98,000 grant from Maddie’s Fund as part of Maddie’s Million Pet Challenge—an incredible investment in our mission to improve outcomes for vulnerable kittens across the country.

Being invited to participate in Maddie’s Million Pet Challenge was an enormous honor and an opportunity we took seriously. The grant provided 18 months to complete the work—and our team completed the project in just 11 months.

Because of this funding, National Kitten College was able to bring training, resources, and program support directly to shelters and rescues at no cost to them, helping organizations strengthen their kitten programs, engage fosters, and build sustainable lifesaving capacity in their communities.

But this work also demonstrated something important: when cost is removed as a barrier, more shelters can access the training and support they need to save kittens.

That’s why NKC is actively seeking additional grant opportunities that will allow us to continue providing our shelter and rescue partners with free access to training and hands-on program implementation support.

We are incredibly grateful to Maddie’s Fund and Maddie’s Million Pet Challenge for believing in this work and giving us the opportunity to show what’s possible.

This grant may be complete, but the work it helped build is just getting started. 🧡🐱

Are you ready to develop your own Kitten College? 🐾 Applications are open today through August 23 for "Developing Your Own Kitten College," presented by Maddie’s Fund!

This course gives shelters and rescues the tools, knowledge, and community to build or strengthen a sustainable neonatal kitten program. We launch September 15, providing shelters with best practices to train and support staff/fosters, build stronger foster networks, implement evidence-based neonatal protocols and create partnerships for long-term success.

Every participant becomes part of the National Kitten College movement. Whether you’re starting from scratch or ready to take an existing program to the next level, this is your opportunity to learn, connect, and save more neonatal lives.

New data analysis comes with a clear call to action: Neonatal kittens have the highest mortality of all shelter populations — but that once they reach eight weeks old, they become among the most adoptable.

HI ALL - just got off a call with the CEO of Revival regarding the temporary disruption in production of their kitten milk replacers, including Breeder’s Edge and Shelter’s Choice.

They assured me that all kitten formula currently on the market continues to meet their quality and safety standards. After 18 years on the market, Revival has made the decision to transition to a new manufacturing partner due to concerns related to confidence in the puppy milk replacer product line. As a result, kitten formula production is temporarily paused while the transition takes place.

The expectation is that kitten milk replacer will be back on the market within the next few months—hopefully before October—and will be produced under the new manufacturer, providing even greater confidence for consumers.

For Kitten College partner programs, Revival will be reaching out directly with additional information. They have also committed to providing goodwill donations of some of their other products as a thank-you for your patience and to help offset the inconvenience during this transition.

We are so excited to welcome National Kitten College back to KC Pet Project on March 12th for another incredible learning opportunity as kitten season begins to ramp up! The focus will be on bottle feeding neonatal kittens and giving our team the tools they need to care for some of the tiniest and most vulnerable lives that come through our doors.

Our staff, volunteers, and foster caregivers will be joining the training, and we are also opening this opportunity up to members of the public who want to learn more about how to help us save young kittens! 🐱
