Corner's Unruh named finalist for 5A Back of the Year
Corner senior running back Spencer Unruh has been named a Class 5A Back of the Year finalist by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Finalists were announced Saturday morning.
Unruh is one of the three finalists up for the award along with Fairfiew's Jake Harper and Vigor's Sammy Dunn. The Back of the Year and Lineman of the Year in each classification, along with Alabama's Mr. Football, will be announced at a luncheon held at the Montgomery Renaissance on Jan. 20.
Unurh had a stellar season for Coach Trent Campbell's Yellow Jackets, rushing for 1,741 yards and 25 touchdowns on 234 carries, an average of 7.4 yards per attempt. He also caught 25 passes for 337 yards and three scores, and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass.
He closes his high school career with 4.428 yards and 58 touchdowns on the ground. Unruh rushed for over 2,000 yards as a junior.
Unruh has been a First-Team All-State running back each of the last two years.
