Doon Fire and Rescue, along with Alvord Fire and Rescue did some training during a controlled burn tonight. We were able to do a search and rescue scenario on a victim trapped upstairs. After locating the fire source and testing a few ventilation options, the victim was pulled from an upstairs window and transferred to the ground.

At around 5 pm Doon Fire will be doing training on a vacant house at the intersection of N 2nd St and 7th AVE N. We plan to pull water from the hydrant south of the house which will close down parts of the road and restrict access to some driveways. The road will be closed where the orange lines are, unless your driveway is in that area we can coordinate access. Otherwise please keep vehicles clear of the area for a few hours.

Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop over western and north central South Dakota Monday evening. Some of these storms may congeal into one or more severe clusters that move southeast across southeastern South Dakota, southwestern Minnesota, and northwestern Iowa overnight into Tuesday morning. While these storms are developing in the evening, there will be a risk of hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and perhaps an embedded tornado. Later in the night, wind gusts up to 75 mph will become the dominant storm risk. Please ensure you have multiple methods to receive possible warnings tonight, especially if your electricity goes out after you go to bed.

Rain and wind have been fairly common this last week, but keep a close eye out tonight as things could get more severe.
Stay weather aware overnight and have a way to receive alerts. Reminder: town sirens are designed to notify people outside to seek shelter. Do not depend on that as your only notification for severe weather threats.

Thursday 1:50 pm | Thunderstorm chances will increase through the day into tonight. Some of these storms will become severe with large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, wind gusts up to 75 mph and perhaps a tornado all possible. Be sure to have multiple ways to receive any warnings that are issued.

Thank you for hosting this training! Separate towns training on common resources is a huge key to success.
Take a close look at the pictures and acknowledge the number of volunteers taking time out of their schedule on a beautiful night for no other reason than to better serve their communities.

This week is National EMS Week. Please take a moment to thank our dedicated team of volunteers. The time and effort that goes into a team like this goes beyond showing up to calls. It also includes meetings, training, fundraising and grant writing. With that we would like to congratulate this team on their new ambulance. The following is from Doon Rescue:

With this funding, Doon EMS was able to upgrade their ambulance through Arrow Ambulances , improving the vehicle’s safety, reliability, and overall functionality. These enhancements will help ensure our department can continue providing dependable emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of our community for many years to come!

This company was kind enough to offer a 25 helmet giveaway. After watching 75 application videos from across the country they chose Doon Fire as the recipient! This gift will not only finish equipping our crew from outdated helmets, it also allows us to use prior funds raised to go towards other necessary gear updates!
