Today at the VA Medical Center in Aspinwall! Bring your motorcycle or classic car or if you have a military vehicle! for the Veterans who live at the Community Living Center for World Mental Health Day and this Centennial Celebration!
Hey, awesome Veterans, itโs Glory again, VA Pittsburghโs traveling flag!
I stopped by Public Affairs this morning and yinz are gonna absolutely love this โ theyโve asked me to invite YOU to our Heinz campus from 1-4 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 10, for our Centennial Commemoration! We are marking 100 years of service to YOU, beginning in 1925 with the admission of our first patient to our Heinz campus, a WWI Veteran.
While youโre here, you can learn about VHA resources, apply to enroll in VHA health care (bring your Veteran friends who arenโt enrolled yet!) and get a flu and/or COVID shot (if eligible) in our walk-in clinic.
Did I mention free cake and popcorn? Andโฆwe have three food trucks visiting with food for purchase! Iโm talking hot dogs and hamburgers, ice cream and soul food! Mmmm, mmm, delicious!
Also, you can browse static motorcycle and vehicle displays, visit with therapy dogs and view historical exhibits.
Butโฆand this is the best part, IMHOโฆyou can get a close look at the time capsule we are assembling over the next year. As you can see, here I am, perched precariously on the capsule, with my idea for an item to include โ A FULL COLOR PHOTO OF YOURS TRULY!!!! Imagine the joy this red, white and blue photo of me in all my glory (lol) will bring to folks who open the capsule, in, oh, say, 100 years!
What do yinz think? Will including my photo pass muster with the selection committee? Does anyone know how I can โrigโ the results to ensure an indisputable โYES?โ Ha, ha, just kidding!
Now, you can also suggest items to place in the capsule, but whatever you do, DO NOT bring the items with you on Friday (or any other day). Instead, email a photo of the item, along with a description with its connection to VA Pittsburgh, and email it to the committee that is reviewing submissions at [email protected].
Iโm talking about things like photos and videos, personal letters and mementoes from patients and staff, news clippings, ceramics made in the shop at Heinz, etc. Use your imagination, but I repeat, DO NOT BRING the items to Heinz โ email the information!
See ya Friday!
