We love and appreciate the river that flows through and sustains our community. We recognize the multiple uses that it affords, including irrigation, recreation, domestic water supply and industrial use. However, we feel strongly that the Dolores River needs a management plan that better balances human needs with the needs of the ecosystem. Permanent protection of the river and surrounding canyon

country will enhance our community and leave a legacy for future generations of which we can be proud. We are an affiliate club of American Whitewater. Founded in 1954, AW is the only national non-profit organization dedicated to conserving America's whitewater rivers and enhancing opportunities to enjoy them safely.

Join in for a (potentially very small craft) river parade at this year's Dolores River Festival! You can sign a waiver at DRBA's booth at any point during the day and some will be available at Riverside Park. You are responsible for a craft and costume.

We'll meet over at Riverside Park at 4:45 pm and launch by 5:30 pm.

We'll share the flow level the day before the festival, but there won't be much water so leave all bigger boats at home. Inner tubes anyone?

It's the last day of school for most in Montezuma County. Seems like a perfect time to celebrate all the educators and students we worked with in our River School programs recently. Nothing beats spending time with young people of all ages in the great outdoors! From measuring snowpack at Lizard Head Pass to floating the San Juan River, school yard lessons or field trip adventures--kids grow better outside.

Saturday was Colorado Public Lands Day - a day to celebrate and give back to these places that belong to all of us.

These days, we must work to preserve and protect public lands and rivers that are being threatened by privatization, extraction, and greed.

Use your voice, stay alert, and most importantly: go enjoy the outdoors.

Public lands are the foundation of democracy here in the West: thanks to The Durango Herald for editorializing!

"Public lands are part of Colorado’s economy, heritage and identity. They deserve more than symbolic praise one Saturday each May. They deserve protection."

Since 2016, Colorado has observed the third Saturday in May as Public Lands Day, honoring the role public lands play in the state’s identity, economy and quality of life. In a state where more than 22...

DRBA has been a partner in an Arts and Advocacy project with community members from the White Mesa Community of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. The project includes a centerpiece by artist Lauana Morris and mutiple collages of artwork by youth. All of the artwork is inspired by the Dolores River Canyons from Rico down to the confluence with the San Miguel.

The art has been created over the past six months over a series of field trips and last weekend the exhibit was displayed in Blanding at the Edge of the Cedars museum in Blanding. It will be up for at least six more weeks if anyone is in the area!

Thanks to our partners at Conservation Lands Foundation for making this project a possibility!
