Looking back at WhaleFest Monterey, one thing surprised me.

It wasn't the exhibits, the booths, or even the marine life displays.
It was how many people genuinely care about the ocean.

Every conversation, every question, and every story shared reminded me that there are people everywhere who want to learn more and make a difference for marine life.

Sometimes a simple conversation is where conservation begins.

🌊 A moment from Monterey, California.

Sometimes conservation starts with something simple—taking time to stand by the ocean and remember what we're working to protect.
The ocean inspires wonder, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that depends on it.

Monterey, California

Standing on the shoreline, it's easy to appreciate just how vast and powerful the ocean really is.
Every wave, current, and tide is connected to an ecosystem that supports countless species, from microscopic plankton to dolphins, whales, sea otters, and seabirds.

Protecting marine life begins with protecting the ocean they call home.

🐬 A single photograph never tells the whole story.

Behind every image of a dolphin is an animal navigating its environment, interacting with other members of its pod, searching for food, avoiding threats, and responding to a constantly changing world.

What we see for a moment is only a small glimpse into a much larger life beneath the surface.

Don't let a dolphin's "smile" fool you.

Many people assume a dolphin is happy because it appears to be smiling. In reality, the shape of a dolphin's mouth is simply part of its natural anatomy.

Unlike humans, dolphins don't communicate emotions through facial expressions. Scientists study their behavior, body language, social interactions, and vocalizations to better understand what they may be experiencing.

Understanding dolphins begins with looking beyond appearances and learning more about the complex animals they truly are.

A Different View of the Ocean

When most people look at the ocean, they see waves stretching to the horizon.

Marine mammals see something very different.
The ocean is their home, their highway, their hunting ground, and their social world. Every day they navigate a constantly changing environment shaped by weather, currents, tides, and the presence of other marine life.

The more we learn about the ocean, the more we understand the importance of protecting the ecosystems that support it.
