1st SPRING Parent-Principal Chat for the year was held last night at the Dobbs Ferry Library with Dr. Brown, Springhurst Principal. So grateful for the feedback, questions, and open, honest dialog. It was a chance to speak of concerns and challenges, to seek and find support, and communicate joy and gratitude. We heard some inspiring stories of the impact that some help and attention can achieve —from the first grader who rarely spoke in kindergarten, to finding his voice and now is working through some struggles to learn to read, to the third grader who discovered a passion for music because of having access to an instrument, and receiving a scholarship to a prestigious music program. We also heard some of the frustrations of parents struggling with limited means and resources when wanting to do more for their children. Sometimes all of the questions can’t be answered, but everyone was seen, heard and left with some action steps that will benefit the children we all serve and love. We are thankful for the community who support all we do - the Library for opening their welcoming space, our board members and volunteers who took the time and made sure we had child care and translation, and our amazing educators who do so much more well beyond school hours to be present and ensure the progress, safety and success of each child’s experience every single day.
