First Responder Support Network

First Responder Support Network FRSN is a non-profit dedicated to helping first responders and their families recover from stress injuries.

*This page is not continously monitored and should not be used for emergencies.*

Our goal is to provide first responders and their families with tools to reduce the effects of traumatic incident stress. The key components of the FRSN are the 6-day residential treatment for first responders, also known as the West Coast Post-trauma Retreat (WCPR), and the 6-day program for significant others & spo

uses (SOS). The FRSN is a collaboration of first responder peers (included but not limited to police, fire, corrections, dispatch, and emergency medical services), SOS peers, culturally competent mental health clinicians, and chaplains; all of these individuals volunteer their time. We encourage you to contact us by phone or email if you or someone you know is in need of assistance.

June is PTSD Awareness Month. At the First Responder Support Network, we want first responders and their families to know: healing is possible, and you do not have to go through it alone. 💙

Our WCPR (West Coast Post Trauma Retreat) helps first responders recover from work-related trauma and post-traumatic stress injuries through peer support, education, and connection. Our SOS (Significant Others and Spouses) retreat is designed specifically for significant others and spouses, providing support, healing, and community for those impacted alongside their loved one.

Both are 6 days and staffed by experienced first responder partners, mental health clinicians and chaplains, specifically trained in trauma recovery.

Healing happens in community. It’s time to get back to life.

Your road to healing starts HERE. 🤍

The drive into our Northern California retreat is peaceful for a reason. It’s the first step toward slowing down, reconnecting, and beginning the healing process surrounded by people who truly understand.

The First Responder Support Network offers two 6 day peer-led retreat programs:

• WCPR is a residential program for first responders that provides treatment, education, and peer support designed to help recover from work-related stress, including post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI).

• SOS (Significant Others and Spouses) is a healing retreat created specifically for current or former partners, spouses, and widows of emergency responders. It’s a space to step away from the constant demands of everyday life and focus on your own healing, support, and restoration.

Healing happens in community. You do not have to carry it alone. 🤝

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the importance of healing, connection, and support for first responders. Hear from retired Police Officer and First Responder Support Network WCPR Peer Director & Satellite Director, Nick Turkovich. ❤️

“Over forty years have passed since the time I became fully aware that trauma can dramatically destroy one’s mental health. Prior to that time, I was aware of mental illness, but that was only for those unfortunate souls who suffered from genetic conditions. I knew of “shell shock” and “battle fatigue” but again that was only for those who served long combat tours.

With my limited knowledge, I knew there were unfortunates out there, but it most certainly could not affect me and I lived in that fantasy for several years until the horrors of PTSI entered my world. Thanks to the help of many people around me and specifically one person, who I now recognize as a Peer, I did not become another sad statistic of that condition.

This month as the world contemplates mental health issues, our First Responder community still sits in the dark in many ways. Whether that comes from bravado, lack of knowledge, or a negative stigma attached to mental health, we must remain diligent in getting the word out to our brothers and sisters that they are not alone and that they matter.

What I love about our FRSN community is that we are surrounded by incredibly brave men and women who have faced PTSI and continue in their fight for their own mental health at the same time giving of themselves for others. Our volunteers are the backbone of this organization. By their continued work, they are destroying the mental health barriers that still remain in the Responder community. Each and every one of our volunteers should rest well each night knowing they are doing life changing work in our community.”

How do you unwind after a tough day? For first responders and their significant others, prioritizing mental health wellness is essential. Even small acts of self-care can help create space to reset, recharge, and heal. ❤️

At the First Responder Support Network, healing happens in community. FRSN’s six-day, peer-led clinical retreats are designed specifically for first responders and their significant others navigating the effects of trauma, stress, and critical incidents. Through guided debriefing, peer support, education, and connection, participants gain tools for resilience, recovery, and hope. 🤝

The West Coast Post-Trauma Retreat (WCPR) supports first responders working through cumulative stress and critical incident trauma, while the Significant Others and Spouses (SOS) Retreat provides education, support, and connection for spouses and partners impacted by the realities of the job. Both retreats are led by peers who understand firsthand what participants are facing.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the courage it takes for first responders and their families to seek healing, connection, and support. At FRSN, our peer-led retreats create a safe space to process trauma with people who truly understand the journey because they’ve walked it too. 💙❤️💛

“WCPR gave me an understanding of all the trauma in my life. Here I found community, purpose, and healing for myself and beyond. I learned to forgive, let go, and live appreciating the gifts in my life.” — Patricia, Retreat Lead Peer, Board Member & Past Client

What makes our retreats unique is that they are led by peers who have been in your shoes and understand firsthand the realities of life as a first responder or significant other. 🤝
