Tonight I had the opportunity to attend the Miss Kentucky competition and support one of my former 4-H members, Lily Martin.
My heart was full as I watched Lily take the stage tonight. Over the past 23 years, I have been incredibly blessed to build meaningful relationships with youth and adults, not only in Webster County but across Kentucky. One of the most rewarding parts of this career is having a front-row seat to the journeys of young people as they grow, overcome challenges, discover their strengths, and become confident, talented, and successful adults.
Seeing Lily compete was especially emotional because I have had the privilege of watching her grow through the years. She did an outstanding job in fitness, talent, evening gown, and she absolutely shined during her on-stage question. As I sat in the audience, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride not just for how well she performed tonight, but for the remarkable young woman she has become.
I truly believe Lily would tell you that her experiences in 4-H played an important role in shaping her into the confident, talented servant leader and exceptional public speaker she is today. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do. Watching former 4-H members chase their dreams, achieve their goals, and make a positive impact in the world is one of the greatest joys and blessings of my career.
Best of luck on Saturday, Lily Martin! Webster County is cheering you on and is incredibly proud of you. No matter what happens, you have already inspired so many people, and I know you will continue to represent yourself, your community, and all those who have supported you with grace, confidence, and excellence.
