SCWFI Update- 5 p.m., September 27, 2022
THAT SMOKE ON THE SOUTHERN HORIZON is not from a wildfire in Montana, it is from a prescribed burn in Idaho. Appearing closer than it actually is, smoke from the prescribed burn was visible in the Superior, St. Regis and Plains areas this afternoon.

Picture is another faraway look at a wildfire from earlier this summer on the Flathead Indian Reservation, taken from Eddy Mountain Lookout. just east of Thompson Falls.

: Seven new large fires were reported yesterday, five in Idaho and two in Montana. Nationally, 97 wildfires have burned 900,282 acres in 9 states. More than 18,700 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents. One national incident management organization,10 Type 1 incident management teams (IMTs) and 11 Type 2 IMTs are supporting large fires in the West.
