Just want to remind members that Monday night (March 30) is Ladies Night. Bring your lady down for a home cooked meal. And, of course, stags are welcome. We are looking for donations of deer meat or moose meat for our " smothered beef " supper on April 13th. If you would like to donate some, please bring it or send it to Ladies Night on Monday the 30th. What we collect that night will greatly offset the very high cost of stew beef. Every little bit helps. Hoping to see you there.

This year's Buck & Doe contest has ended with a great season. Ninety-seven hunters entered the contest and forty-one hunters registered a deer. That is a very high percentage rate, much higher than than the statewide average. We can be proud. Congratulations to Captain EJ Varnum and his team with 23 deer and a total of 2993.6 pounds. They win! Matt Kusek and his team had a very respectable 18 deer and 2425.7 pounds. Congratulations to Spencer Berry for shooting the biggest Buck at 212 pounds. Congratulations to all hunters who registered a deer. Lastly, a very special congratulations to Bob Richard. Bob got a nice buck, and combined with his moose, bear, and turkey this year gives him the Grand Slam of hunting here in Maine. You're the MAN, Bob. Not bad for a 75 year old hunter. The banquet/supper is tentatively scheduled for January 24th, after the holidays. Everyone who entered the contest will get a notification in the mail with the results and banquet date.

Here's the latest update on the Buck and Doe contest. I am aware of a few more deer out there. If you have one to register, make sure you turn it in by the December 15th meeting night. Every deer counts. The contest is closer than it looks. Still have another week of the muzzle loading season to go. Good luck.

Results of the Buck and Doe contest at this time. I am aware (through the grapevine) that some other members have gotten their deer. They just haven't turned them in yet. Some have a doe and are waiting to shoot a bigger buck, or have a small buck and might shoot a doe that's bigger. Can only register one deer. I will update the results after next Monday's meeting. Remember, the contest goes through the muzzle loader season. Don't give up!

This year’s Buck & Doe contest is on. Good luck to captains Matt and EJ. Good luck to all the hunters. Shoot to kill!

Just a reminder that memberships expire on September 30th. Many of you have already renewed, but there are many more that haven't yet. The dues went up to $40 this year. The cost to enter the Buck & Doe has also gone up to $15. You have until October 31st to sign up. There are only three more meetings before that deadline. Those who mail their checks in , be sure to send the proper fee. The gun raffle for the Buck & Doe contest remains at $10. I would like to thank Scott Blaisdell for bushhogging the trap shooting range (like he does every year). Thank you Dave Arsenault for keeping the banks trimmed up, and thanks go out to Mike Palmer and Mark Steele for putting up new belting on the rifle range backstop. Finally, a huge thanks to the crew that built the new pistol range. I will probably miss a few, but Kurt Ellis was the lead man, with help from Rick Childs, Scott Blaisdell, Chris Hall, Brian Verrill, Bruce Weld, EJ Varnum, and myself (Harold Wilson). We had a big assist from the Mexico Water Dist. who donated the use of their backhoe and Dixfield Salvage who donated six to eight hundred tires for the backstop berm. Thanks to these members and anybody else I left out. Our range is looking pretty good.
