A safe and indebted nation wishes the United States Army a happy 250th birthday. You have watched over and protected us all from our foreign enemies for 250 years. Legion Post 278 has had the honor of having many US Army veterans as members. Among them is Arthur Quick, a WWI veteran from Divernon who gave his life in the trenches of France in 1919. To all the men and women who have strengthened her ranks, a grateful nation honors and thanks you.

It is with great sadness to report that Legion Post 278 has lost one of its greatest supporters. Jane Emerson embodied all that it meant to be a true patriot. She was married to a veteran and raised two sons to become soldiers. She knew firsthand the pain and worry of being separated from the men that she loved. She was a staunch supporter of Post 278 and we will be forever in her debt. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Emerson family. God’s speed Jane.

A final salute from Post 278 to former President Jimmy Carter, who was the last surviving Commander in Chief who served during the WWII era. As a Navy lieutenant, he was a member of the submarine corp. The Divernon American Legion would like to honor and thank the former President for his love of and his dedication to the United States. God's speed Mr. President.

When we sit down with our families this Thanksgiving, please remember the men and women far from home who allow us to live in freedom. We can never repay them for their sacrifice and service.
