We welcomed 50 young players to Vista Gardens for a full K–12 rated chess tournament. Some came ready to compete, some were still growing in confidence, but every participant showed focus, courage, and great sportsmanship.

More than 100 family members, supporters, and community members came through to cheer them on. We shared pizza, celebrated every player with a medal, and awarded trophies to the top three finishers in each section.

The best part was seeing young people from different ages and backgrounds sitting across the board from one another, thinking, learning, and building community—one move at a time.

Thank you to every parent, player, volunteer, and supporter who helped make today special. Vista Gardens showed up!

Big Chair Chess Club is proud to support Preston Plumber, the 2026 DC State High School Chess Champion, as he prepares to represent the District of Columbia at the 42nd Annual GM Arnold Denker National Tournament of High School State Champions in Grand Rapids, Michigan, August 3–6, 2026.

This prestigious invitation-only tournament brings together the High School State Champion from every state and the District of Columbia. Preston earned his invitation by winning the 2026 DC State High School Championship and will compete for college scholarship opportunities while proudly representing Team DC.

Preston's Accomplishments

🥉 Tied U1600 for 3rd Place at the 2026 U.S. Open Chess Championship
🇩🇨 Official Representative of the District of Columbia at the Denker National Championship

Our fundraising goal is $3,500 to help cover Preston's travel, hotel accommodations, meals, and local transportation.

To show our commitment, Big Chair Chess Club has already contributed the first $500 toward Preston's journey.

Now we're inviting our community to help us raise the remaining $3,000 and send our DC State Champion to compete on the national stage.
