Want to help with the Asheville flood relief effort?

Here's a way you can help... tangentially...

My car is in Asheville and I have decided to leave it there for the next couple of weeks so that friends can use it to help with tracking down missing persons, and other necessary functions. What that means is that I need a car to use myself while I am in Kentucky for the next 10 days.

I was going to fly into Asheville tomorrow but now I am flying into Lexington instead. I land at 5:30 pm tomorrow (Tuesday October 1). And I fly back out of Lexington on October 10th at 11 am.

Anyone have a car I could use for that time? Or even part of that time? Or maybe someone could give me a ride to the Gorge?

Your kindness would be appreciated!

It's going to take more than a village to push Asheville back together.

I will be posting a GoFundMe shortly to help with Earthaven and Dancing Shiva rebuilding efforts.

It's hard to believe that we are halfway through this summer open ashram session. I'm sorry I have not posted updates along the way... staying connected at all and especially on the social medias is a bit of a challenge - and we have been busy building the village, cooling off in the creek, singing around the fire and nourishing our bodies, minds and hearts in this very special and sacred place. My heart bursts with gratitude for those in the Clear Creek and Play Ashram communities who have come out to share in this vision and lend strong, helping hands. Sarah B, Sydney W and I began the process of clearing the old to***co barn back in March...during our Spring Equinox sadhana. I will be forever grateful to our dear Sarah, who upon seeing the disused, debris filled, overgrown and lilting barn looked at me and said "Leila, this is PERFECT!". There is a reason we decided to build this ashram together! Thanks to Joy D for bringing all the right tools as we started the groundbreaking - literally! Lisa H. - you are a force and your support and encouragement is pure gold. Daniel D, Dan P, Steve A, - thank you for bringing your heart and skills, needed equipment and all the best "Dad" energy - I love you so much. Jesse Rose, Kary F and Jenny D - bless your beautiful souls for being here early, and with so few conveniences, to do so much heavy lifting and preparing the space for those who will come after. Thanks, Tom, for coming all the way from England and for all the digging! I pray all of you make it back out before the end of the session to balance all that hard work with MORE PLAY! So grateful to the Goddess of Corn, our magical neighbor, Susanna L of Salamander Springs, who holds and shares so much Earth wisdom and invited us out for her annual Solstice gathering and took us on an amazing hike to visit waterfalls and swimming holes! Thank you Timi and the others at ASPI (Appalachian Science in the Public Interest) for sharing your "simple living" ideas and bringing us so much good food and medicine! Thank you, Joel Karabo Elliot, for serenades of Earth Praise around our puja fire. And, of course, I am awestruck by the support and encouragement of all the residents of Swinford Farm & the Schoolhouse - thank you Paikea, Sunny, Aaron, Michael, Brian, Donna and Mike. And special gratitude for the steward of this land, Phillip G - for inviting us to create our spiritual home, a portal back to the "real" world, right here in this beautiful valley!
I also want to introduce you all to Le Lah Nee, the little lion. She has been holding the space with me these past three weeks and her presence is a joy and a blessing (well, maybe not for the barn mice...)

It is happening, friends. Today is the opening day of Play Ashram! Have you considered joining us in this sacred space this summer?

We will be camped out in our little off grid ashram village for 6 weeks, on a beautiful 400 acre permaculture inspired farm in the Clear Creek Valley.

Daily Ashram Schedule:

Each day in ashram begins with morning meditation and asana practice followed by breakfast. We maintain silence until the completion of breakfast. We gather again for dinner followed by fire ceremony and sometimes song circles, story telling, or other sharing before silence begins at 10pm.

During the day, there is work to be done. All community members participate in the daily work required to run the ashram. (cooking, gathering firewood, property maintenance & improvements, etc.). But there is plenty of unstructured time, for journaling, play, nature time, or outings to the bountiful nearby hiking, swimming and exploration.

The daily fire ceremonies are a powerful way to continually align with the most pure aspects of the inner most self.

We offer to the fire all of the things that no longer serve us, and honor its primordial power of metaphysical transformation and healing.

As the fire transforms the wood into light and heat, so we offer ourselves to the Divine, that we may be transformed and uplifted.

Leila Christina and Jessi Rose just came down from the hollow! We are feeling so excited for the beauty we will soon create.

We are in the final weeks of preparation for our summer ashram located in Heart Hollow in the Clear Creek Valley.

And… we could use all the HELP we can get. 😉

Next Wednesday the 29th any time after 1pm, we are asking for able bodies and strong hands to help us make the big move, of our equipment, to the Ashram Village.

We hope to visualise the space and set up a few things. We will have dinner as a community to follow.

In our community, we deeply value the principle of play as a means for learning and growth. As such, we consider things like making music together, dancing, rock climbing and even playing in the creek to be part of our "sadhana" or spiritual “work”.

There is an open invitation to all participants to offer opportunities for shared play and learning to the group, especially during our unstructured day time hours; anything from song circles, to rock climbing, to nature poetry writing, plant walks, shadow work, mushroom hunting, fairy house building, acro-yoga or anything that sounds like fun to you.

Additionally, we offer a variety of group retreats, workshops and other learning opportunities facilitated by gifted and experienced guides (often themselves members of our ashram community) as well as provide support for those wishing to perform personal sadhana - which might include a day of silent meditation or prayer or even a personal 3-5 day spiritual, creative or nature connection retreat.

The intention of the ashram is simple; to create a container for healing and spiritual transformation as well as opportunities for learning and connection. There is a deep cellular relaxation that takes place when living close to nature, according to yogic principles in a predictable rhythm of daily spiritual practice.

In day to day ashram living, we integrate a consistent routine of spiritual practices including selfless service (karma yoga), meditation, yoga asana (postures), kirtan (singing of sacred mantras) and daily fire puja (ceremony).

Happy mothers day to all the mothers out there! Whether you are a yogi, practice meditation or do not have a practice at all because your too busy chasing the little ones around, we believe mothering is the ultimate spiritual practice. And here at the ashram, we sing your praise!
