🚸📚 Back to School Safety Reminder 🚌🚦

The first day of school for the Delaware Valley School District is Monday, August 24th! As students return to classrooms, we are asking all drivers to use extra caution on the roads to help keep children safe.

Across the country, tragic incidents happen each year when drivers fail to obey school bus laws or pay attention in school zones. Please do your part to prevent this by following these important reminders:
✅ Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods. Children can be unpredictable and may cross the street unexpectedly.
✅ Stay alert near bus stops. Kids are often gathered in groups and may step into the road suddenly.
✅ Avoid distracted driving. Put your phone down and give the road your full attention. A moment of distraction could have serious consequences.
✅ Watch for new teen drivers. Many high school students are driving to school for the first time. Give them space, patience, and understanding.
✅ Obey Pennsylvania’s school bus laws (75 Pa. C.S. § 3345). It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended. Drivers in all directions must stop at least 10 feet away until the lights stop flashing and the arm is retracted. Penalties are strict: $250 fine, five points on your driving record, and a 60-day license suspension for violations.
✅ Expect heavier traffic during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal. Give yourself extra time and drive patiently.

🍪 A big thank you to Camp Mesivta Eitz Chaim for dropping off some delicious treats for our crews!

Throughout the summer, DTVAC works closely with several camps throughout our service area, often coordinating with camp nurses, EMS providers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to help ensure campers, guests, and staff receive the best possible care whenever the need arises. ⚕️ 🚑

We greatly appreciate Camp Mesivta Eitz Chaim thinking of our crews and taking the time to drop off this thoughtful donation. The snacks certainly won’t go to waste!🥨

We had a great evening connecting with the community at Pike County’s 1st Annual National Night Out last week at Dingman Township Park! 🚑🚒👮

Delaware Twp. Vol. Ambulance joined Lehman Pike Emergency Medical Services for the evening, and through our partnership with Safe Kids NEPA, our two EMS organizations distributed bicycle helmets, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, gun locks, childproofing supplies, cell phone holders, water bottles, safety literature, and other educational materials. Together, we were able to place important safety equipment and educational resources directly into the hands of families who needed them.

National Night Out brought together more than 50 nonprofit organizations, businesses, public safety agencies, and community resources. Visitors had the opportunity to meet local first responders, explore emergency vehicles and equipment, enjoy games and activities, visit vendors, and learn more about services available throughout Pike County.

Thank you to the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, Dickson House Children's Advocacy Center, and Victims’ Intervention Program (VIP) for organizing the event, along with all of the agencies, organizations, vendors, and community members who helped make its first year a success.

It was great seeing so many familiar faces and meeting plenty of new ones. We’re already looking forward to the 2nd Annual National Night Out on August 3, 2027! ⭐

🩸 Thank you to everyone who came out and donated at our annual American Red Cross Community Blood Drive!

This year, we collected a record number of units of blood for our annual drive, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make that possible. With the American Red Cross continuing to face a national blood shortage, every donation matters—and our community stepped up in a big way to help patients in need. ❤️

📊 In July, DTVAC EMS clinicians responded to 154 service requests across ten municipalities and transported or accompanied 91 patients to the hospital—the highest monthly total in the squad’s history. Crews also set monthly records for transports to Garnet Health Medical Center and St. Luke’s Monroe and tied the record for Newton Medical Center. Summer is typically a demanding time for emergency services throughout the Pocono Region, and this year’s call volume was heightened by severe weather and activities surrounding America’s Semiquincentennial. We appreciate the teamwork and support provided by our mutual aid partners throughout this record-setting month.

Come out for an evening of community, safety, and family fun at the 1st Annual Pike County National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dingman Township Park.

The event will feature food and drink vendors, games and activities, a touch-a-truck, raffles, giveaways, local first responders, and community resources. More than 50 nonprofit organizations, businesses, and public safety agencies will be represented, and admission is free.

Delaware Twp. Vol. Ambulance and Lehman Pike Emergency Medical Services, in partnership with Safe Kids NEPA, will provide free child safety seat inspections. Certified technicians will be available to help caregivers ensure their child’s car seat is installed and used correctly. Together, we also plan to distribute a variety of free safety-related items and educational materials while supplies last.

🩸 The American Red Cross has declared a national blood crisis—only the second in its history.
Blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, and hospital needs are exceeding the number of donations being received. All blood types are urgently needed, especially type O.

🛟 Today is National Drowning Prevention Day, and we want to share a few of the following tips to help you enjoy the beautiful lakes, pools, and rivers in our area safely. 🌊

WATER SAFETY TIPS:
🦺Wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating, tubing, or swimming in open water.
🧒Always supervise children and pets near the water.
🦺Wear a properly fitted life jacket - even strong swimmers can get caught off guard.
🍺 Avoid alcohol and other substances that impair judgment when swimming or operating watercraft.
🚩Check conditions before entering the water, and follow all posted rules and advisories.
🚣Ensure all vessels, including boats, tubes, canoes, and kayaks, have a life vest for every occupant.
💪 Know your limits and get out of the water before you are too tired. The Delaware River has strong currents, hidden obstacles, and sudden drop-offs.
🏊 Consider having a check-in buddy who can call for help if you don’t return/contact them by a certain time
📍Know your location in case of emergency.
📱And in the event of an emergency, dial 911 immediately - it takes time to get appropriate resources to you in our rural area.

🚑 Our area’s emergency services teams are always ready to respond, but prevention is the best way to keep everyone safe. Stay alert, stay smart, and enjoy the water responsibly!
