Tuesday is not only the first day of September. It is also the first Tuesday of the month which will be our daytime meeting. From 11 AM to 2 PM. At first Presbyterian Church in Dimondale if you come in the main doors, go to the office, take a sharp lift and come down to the room we’re in.
We sure would enjoy your stopping by.

This meeting is for those who don’t like to drive at night, especially when it gets a little later in the year. It gets darker earlier.

Just before school started, we had a pretty sizable group of young people come in to learn how to carve plus a grandpa who brought three of them.

Lucus came back for the second meeting of August on Thursday evening. I showed him how to do the flower from a tree ranch. As the only carving, I know you can carve in less five minutes once you get used to doing them. Here is his image of extreme concentration of him  working on getting a flower for his efforts.

Anybody know what this is? I found it on my way back from over the other side of Mason. It looked like it needed help and thank goodness I was there to take advantage of it.

At our first meeting for the month of August, I suddenly had six people to start teaching carving too. From a 10-year-old all the way up to a senior citizen old. We kind of worked them on some basic carving cuts. And as they worked their way through them, one of the young people ended up with a bit of a carving.
I don’t think it was planned that way, but he kind of evolved it that way.

The whole group seemed to be good listeners and I’m looking forward to their progress.

I ask if I could take his picture and post it here and he said yes.

The thing I would like to have you take special notice are the curves. There are very few straight lines on a wood carving. I don’t think he’s gonna have any trouble with carving.

September 10 and 11 will be the JOHNSON’S WORKBENCH WOOD EXPO FOR 2026  in Charlotte Michigan.

There are seminars, tools, tool, sales, crafters who do many different things with wood.

One big tent will be tools with factory representatives. Tool sales specials for those woodworkers.

The other big tent closer to the street will be will full of folks who make various things from the wood. some of which are for sale some are not.

GREATER LANSING WOOD CARVERS WILL BE IN THE CRAFTERS TENT THOSE TWO DAYS. WELOOK FORWARD TO HAVING YOU COME AND VISIT US
IT’S A REALLY TERRIFIC EVENT AS EVERYBODY THERE IS INTO WOODWORKING ONE WAY OR ANOTHER AND IS ALWAYS INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE CAN DO WITH WOOD.

From the daughter of a former member of the club who is now a silent Carver.

“Hello woodcarvers.
My name is Marie Weldon, my Dad, Richard Trowbridge was a member of your organization.
I notified most of you of his passing a year and a half ago.

Now I'd like to inform you all about the Estate Sale I have planned the dates of Aug 28th, 29th and 30th at his residence 4057 W Jolly Rd 48911. [Lansing, Mi].

I am thinking the hours will be 9 to 7. But I'll put something out again when it's closer if anything changes.

There is a lot of wood, I know some is bass wood. Quite a few tools, many patterns. His Foredom and maybe carving items that I don't even know are associated with carving.

There will also be for sale many other average Estate sale items small and large, old and newer.

I invite you all to come and take a look. Please bring along a story or two you remember about my Dad.”

I would consider Dick‘s carvings in the master category. I’m sure there will be a nice selection of items that one will be able to purchase.

Welcome to a new follower, Miss Breah. I hope our Coffee Group will provide you with some inspiration.
Also, if you wanna talk photography, it was a wedding Photographer for 31 years. I have over 100,000 images not including any of the portraits and weddings and stuff like that. It’s just my stuff.
