Come ride the train!
Our District has worked with Patriot Rail and the Gettysburg Railway to offer a special Scout Train on Saturday, September 12. Scouts of all ages are invited to join us on this special event including a 90-minute train ride where Troop and Crew scouts can work on earning their Railroading merit badge and Cub Scouts have a chance to participate in Operation Lifesaver- a train safety program. Patriot Rail is offering us a special price of $25.50 per person which includes the train ride, donuts, beverages and activities before the ride and a goody bag. Limited seats available, and if the train isn't filled by scouts and their families by Aug 1, the train ride will be opened to the public. We hope our District Commissioner Matt enjoyed his birthday today! He spent part of it at Program Launch co-leading a presentation on membership retention! Some of his Assistant District Commissioners brought him a balloon and some sweet treats! We appreciate your dedication and leadership Matt!

Got an Eagle Project approved and now need help with funding it? Many of our Adams County scouts benefit from applying for the Shirley Smith Youth Service Award. Congratulations Daniel! It was a pleasure to attend the dedication ceremony of your project yesterday!

Our newest Pack in our District just held their first Blue & Gold this week! All 8 of their scouts were able to achieve their rank and one of their scouts got to crossover up to the Troop! We're excited that they had a successful first year and know that good things are ahead for them! Thank you to all of the parents who stepped up to be leaders for this Pack this year! And thank you to those who helped put this celebration together including Mayor Ron Harris who took these photos for us!

This morning dozens of scouts, scout leaders and parents from many of the units in Battlefield District, along with other community volunteers braved the rainy weather and joined together to help place flags at Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg. This group of volunteers placed over 6,000 flags on the graves for Memorial Day honoring all those who are buried in the cemetery.

Any units or scouts planning on helping place flags Saturday in Gettysburg- please remember forms need to be filled out and signed by parents!!

* Reminder * We need intrepid volunteers to join us this Saturday morning as we place American flags at every grave in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in honor of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Even though it looks like Mother Nature is forecast to bring us rain, this event takes place rain or shine. All volunteers who haven't already registered must sign a volunteer service agreement form the morning of the event. All children under 18 MUST have a parent's signature on their form. Forms will be available at the check-in table starting at 7:30 am at the Taneytown Road entrance of the cemetery. The event begins at 8 am. Bring your rain coat and rain boots and help us commemorate this important holiday.
