Joker & Ellie need your help. ❤️
You might remember our recent post looking for emergency fosters or adopters for three horses whose owner could no longer provide their care.
Today, the vet came out to see them, and we learned more about what these two are going to need moving forward.
What is left of Joker and Ellie’s teeth were floated, they received their vaccines, blood was drawn, and f***l samples were collected. We are waiting on those results so we can get a better picture of their overall health.
Because of the condition of their teeth, both Joker and Ellie will need soaked alfalfa pellets and complete feed rather than relying on regular hay.
For the two of them, we're estimating:
🌾 Alfalfa pellets: about $324/month
🥣 Buckeye Complete: about $162/month
That puts their basic feed at nearly $500 every month, before veterinary care, medications, supplements, and anything else they may need as they recover.
If you'd like to help Joker and Ellie, donations toward their feed are greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps us keep their bowls full while we work on getting them healthy.
Ways to donate are listed in the comments.
If donating isn't possible right now, that's okay. Helping us get Joker and Ellie's story in front of people who may be able to help is incredibly valuable too.
For now, Joker and Ellie will remain with Helping Hooves while we work with their vet, wait for their test results, and help them reach a healthy weight.
Once they are cleared by the vet and at a healthy weight, we'll begin looking for foster or adoption homes for them. Our goal is to find the right homes where they can be safe, loved, and properly cared for.
These two have already been through a lot. We're grateful we were able to say yes when they needed us. ❤️
