Ready to get cold?
Let's get in the river! If you already have a cold immersion practice, study Wim Hof's methods, or you're building up tolerance with cold showers, that's awesome. Meet up this week (9/21-27) for some accountability and practice -- we'll get in the water at 8:15 am each morning under the Bald Eagle Road Bridge in Silverthorne. Parking is available at the Angler Mountain Trailhead, (5 minute run/walk from the river). Hope to see you there :)

"Self talk gives us a perspective on ourselves that might be a key ingredient for thinking in a flexible, open ended manner" --Charles Fernyhough.

The brain can act as a kind of question-answer machine. In his book "The Voices Within" Fernyhough calls this "Dialogic thinking".

How we interpret the outer experience is so important! During times of uncertainty and overwhelm, try asking empowering questions and see what kind of answer you get...

like "How can I think about this differently?"
or "What can I do today that I didn't do yesterday, that will make me feel more calm?"
or "how can I use this stressful feeling in a productive and healthy way?"

Brain scans of people engaged in these kind of question-answer thoughts show interaction between two areas of the brain, the inner speech network and the social cognition system.

Fernyhough writes, "Two established networks are harnessed for the purpose of responding... Instead of speaking endlessly without expectation of an answer, the brain's work blooms into dialogue."

Try asking yourself questions, and see what happens.

Have you listened to a podcast lately that you loved? Share the episode in the comments section below. Lots of us have disrupted schedules right now... which might be perfect for listening to something new :) Let's share information and keep on connecting

Today on TLS we’re discussing one of the most exciting – and practical – techniques I’ve encountered in 2017: How to sync our heart waves with our brain waves. To share how to do this (and why), I’ve asked Howard Martin, the spokesperson for HeartMath, to come on the show and explain the s...

Our Story

Are you curious about what “The Space” is, how it came about, and what it can be used for? In this post I’ll answer all of those questions.

But first let’s talk about butterflies.

When I was in preschool, we caught a caterpillar, put it in a little glass aquarium, fed it, and then watched it form a chrysalis. One day, the chrysalis started breaking open. We all got to take turns walking up to the glass box and watching the butterfly emerge.

I remember thinking that the caterpillar had gone into the cocoon, fell asleep, and sprouted wings. But that’s not really what happens. What actually happens is that the caterpillar turns into a soupy mess of cells. The caterpillar “digests itself, releasing enzymes to dissolve all of its tissues”.(https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/caterpillar-butterfly-metamorphosis-explainer/)
