Five Rivers Resource Conservation & Development Council hosted their 32nd year of their annual Regional Envirothon on April 22nd. This year’s event was held in Montgomery County at Fredonia Community Center, with 20 teams participating, which was great!
The Envirothon teams are tested on their knowledge of aquatics, forestry, soil, wildlife and one current environmental issue (which this year was Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change. The Envirothon is designed to promote greater awareness to natural resources and environmental issues.
The Regional Envirothon is part of a competition across Tennessee to yield top teams that could possibly go on to compete in the State and National Envirothon. The Five Rivers RC&D Regional Winner was MBA Team A followed by MBA Team B in 2nd place & McEwen High School Team A in 3rd place. MBA Team A will head to the State Envirothon, which will be held May 6th & 7th at Clyde York 4-H Camp in Crossville.
The Five Rivers Resource Conservation and Development Council appreciates the dedicated teachers and volunteers that make it possible for the students to participate in the Envirothon within the 8 counties Five Rivers serve, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, and Stewart. This Exposes students to a wide range of career choices by meeting environmental professionals who represent various branches of the government and private enterprise.
