A pumpkin patch snack break? Wash hands first.

After exiting an animal area, wash children’s hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds—even if they did not touch an animal. Farm animals and their environments can carry germs, so handwashing should be part of every fall outing.

Wash hands before eating, drinking, or chewing gum. Handwashing with soap and water is always preferred. If soap and running water are not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol until hands can be properly washed.

📅 Save the date! Fight Flu Day is almost here.

On Tuesday, October 20, local county health departments across Tennessee will offer free flu shots as part of the statewide 2026 Fight Flu prevention effort.

Free flu shots are available for Tennesseans ages 6 months and older.

Tennessee's Purple and Pink campaign recognizes both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, encouraging education, support, and hope.

🧠 Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an often overlooked health consequence of intimate partner violence. A brain injury can affect memory, concentration, emotions, and daily activities, making an already difficult situation even more challenging.

Tennessee's TBI Program offers free service coordination to help connect survivors with resources and support throughout the state.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection. 💗

According to 2022 TN BRFSS data, about 59% of Tennessee women ages 40–74 reported having a mammogram within the past year. Regular mammograms can help detect breast cancer early, when treatment may be more effective.

If you're due for a mammogram, talk with your healthcare provider about the screening schedule that's right for you. You can also contact your local health department to learn about available breast health services and screening resources. Services vary by county.
