CASA of the Highland Rim Every day in this country, 1,900 children become victims of abuse or neglect, and four of them will die. Every day.

To train and empower court appointed volunteer advocates that assist juvenile court in providing for the ‘best interest’ of the abused and neglected children in Dickson, Hickman, and Stewart Counties. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children is a network of 949 community-based programs that recruit, train and support citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and

neglected children in courtrooms and communities. Volunteer advocates—empowered directly by the courts—offer judges the critical information they need to ensure that each child’s rights and needs are being attended to while in foster care. Volunteers stay with children until they are placed in loving permanent homes. For many abused children, a CASA volunteer is the only constant adult presence in their lives.

Foster parents are the unspoken heart of the child welfare system. They take in a child or siblings for the purpose of providing a safe, caring house until they can be returned to their parents or achieve permanency through adoption. The foster parents provide so much more than a house they provide a home. They provide structure and dependability for the child in foster care and a new hope for life at the other side of their journey. Dickson needs more foster families in this county for our children. WHO IS A “MANDATED” REPORTER OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT?
Everyone in Tennessee is a mandated reporter. Tennessee Code Annotated 37-1-403(i) (1) requires all persons to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. “Any person who has knowledge of or is called upon to render aid to any child who is suffering from or has sustained any wound, injury, disability, or physical or mental condition shall report such harm immediately if the harm is of such a nature as to reasonably indicate that it has been caused by brutality abuse, or neglect or that, on basis of available information, reasonably appears to have been caused by brutality, abuse, or neglect.”
