Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates Black freedom, resilience, culture, and achievement.
Observed on June 19th, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It serves as a reminder that freedom and equality are ongoing pursuits that require education, advocacy, and community action.

At Dickson Love Initiative, we recognize the importance of intersectionality and celebrate the contributions of Black LGBTQIA+ individuals who have helped shape movements for justice, equality, and liberation. Today, we reflect on our shared history, honor those who came before us, and recommit ourselves to building a future where everyone can live authentically, safely, and freely.

Hey folks, many of you know that ICE is back at it in Dickson. Music City MigraWatch has been kind enough to partner with some of us here in town who want to help!

This training does not obligate you to anything. It’s just to help community members stay informed, know our rights, and learn how to safely observe and document ICE activity to keep our neighbors safe.

When: Sunday afternoon, June 28th

Where & Exact Time: The training will be in Dickson County. To keep everyone safe and secure, the specific time and location will be released the day before.

Every year, we hear someone say, “I never thought I’d see a Pride celebration in Dickson.” While that sentiment reflects how far we’ve come, it also reminds us of a difficult truth: many people who grew up here were made to believe that exclusion was simply a part of life. The reality is that Dickson, like countless rural communities across the country, has always been home to LGBTQ+ people. We have always been here living, working, contributing, and building community alongside our neighbors.
In a time when many voices seek to divide us or question our right to exist openly and authentically, we remain committed to celebrating who we are with pride and purpose. Pride is about more than rainbow flags. It is about recognizing our shared humanity. Every person deserves dignity, respect, love, and the opportunity to live in peace.
We will continue to stand together, support one another, and rise above those who seek to spread fear or harm. By living openly and proudly, we help create a future where the next generation knows that it is okay to be gay, trans, q***r, and human.
Progress happens when people choose courage over silence. And together, we will keep moving forward⏩️

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈
We hope everyone enjoys a month filled with love, community, celebration, and pride. June is packed with incredible events happening all across Tennessee, and we encourage everyone to get out, support one another, and celebrate the vibrant LGBTQ+ community.
As we celebrate Pride Month, we’re also excited to officially begin accepting vendor applications, pageant registrations, and sponsorships for our Pride Festival this October! This year marks our 4th Annual Festival, and we’re already hard at work making it our biggest and best celebration yet. We can't wait to share what we have planned with all of you this fall!
