Some weekends leave footprints on your heart forever. Our First Annual Sisters of Strength Mothers Retreat was one of those weekends💜

Mothers from different places, with different stories, came together sharing one heartbreaking bond…the loss of a child. But for one beautiful weekend, we were surrounded by women who simply understood.

There were tears, endless laughter, heartfelt conversations, horseback riding, cozy pajamas, bonfires, and hugs that felt like home. Strangers became friends, and friends became sisters. 💜

We spoke our children’s names, shared their stories, and found comfort in knowing we don’t have to walk this journey alone.

Our theme was “Be Still,” and that’s exactly what we did. We stepped away from the world for a little while, gave ourselves permission to breathe, and made space for both grief and joy.

To every beautiful mother who joined us, thank you for trusting us with your hearts and your children’s memories. And to everyone who helped make this weekend possible, thank you for helping create something truly special. We came together because of loss. We left connected by love💜

And to our beautiful children in heaven…look at the friendships your love continues to create💜

A mother’s love ❤️ doesn’t end when her child’s life does. She carries it into every birthday, every holiday, and every ordinary day when she wishes they would walk through the door😢

This weekend, Mya’s Mission Foundation is honored to help bring mothers together for Sisters of Strength, a retreat for moms, at Wildwood Hills Ranch, a beautiful outdoor retreat center.

We are so excited to welcome mothers from across the country! Each brings her own story, her own love, and a child whose memory will be welcomed and honored throughout our weekend together.

At Mya’s Mission, our commitment extends to the whole family. Substance use affects parents, siblings, children, and entire communities. Families deserve support through the struggle and through the grief when someone they love doesn’t come home.

Our hearts are full as we prepare a weekend where these mothers can breathe, rest, laugh, cry, and speak their children’s names among women who understand. A place where nobody needs to explain why it still hurts. Where joy and grief can share the same table 🙏

Surrounded by the beauty of the ranch, we’ll have opportunities to slow down and connect, whether we’re enjoying horseback riding, taking in the peace of nature, or sharing stories and s’mores around an evening bonfire. Our hope is that connection grows in these simple moments: a laugh over a shared meal, a quiet conversation, or sitting beside someone who understands.

Our theme is “Be Still.” For mothers carrying so much, we hope this weekend offers room to set some of that weight down and feel cared for themselves💞💐

We cannot take away the heartbreak. But we can make space for connection, honor the children who are deeply missed, and remind their mothers that they belong to a community that cares.

This is part of why Mya’s Mission exists. And this weekend, we get to put that love into action💜

Recent headlines involving nonprofit financial accountability have understandably raised questions and concerns within our communities about something incredibly important: When you donate to a nonprofit, where does your money actually go?
At Mya’s Mission Foundation, we believe you deserve to know!

This foundation was created because of Mya. It was created from unimaginable loss and a determination to turn that loss into something that could help another person, another family, and potentially save another life.

That responsibility is something we take incredibly seriously. We are a small nonprofit. We don’t have unlimited resources, and we don’t pretend that we do. In fact, there are times I struggle with spending money on something as simple as printing flyers because every dollar spent is a dollar I immediately think could have gone toward helping someone who needs treatment, providing harm-reduction resources, supporting a grieving family, or furthering the work this foundation was created to do.

That doesn’t mean a nonprofit shouldn’t have legitimate operating expenses. Every organization does. It means those expenses should be appropriate, documented, accountable, and connected to the organization’s mission and operation.

Mya’s Mission Foundation is committed to transparency, responsible stewardship, and compliance with the state and federal requirements governing nonprofit organizations. Our board has a responsibility to this organization. I have a responsibility to our donors!

And most importantly, we have a responsibility to every individual and family who trusts Mya’s Mission to carry out the work we say we are going to do.

Your donations are not our personal money. They belong to the mission you entrusted us to carry forward.

We will never be the biggest nonprofit in the room. We may not have the largest budget, the biggest staff, or the fanciest events. But we can promise to remain accountable for what has been entrusted to us! Because every donation represents someone’s trust. Every dollar has a purpose.

And behind the name of this foundation is my daughter. Mya’s name will always matter more to me than money.

We will continue doing everything we can to honor her, serve others, save lives, reduce stigma, support families, and be responsible stewards of every resource entrusted to Mya’s Mission Foundation.

Transparency isn’t something we should practice only when someone asks questions.
It’s something we owe our community every single day💜

CBP officers at Chicago O'Hare airport arrested three international travelers for attempting to smuggle over 1,000lbs of khat into the country.

Khat is typically grown in East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula and is chewed for its amphetamine-like effect.

CBP officers also seized 412lbs of khat and 847lbs of khat in separate seizures two weeks ago in Baltimore, and just last week CBP officers in Virginia seized another 368lbs of khat.

🎉 A Life Saved. 🎉

We are incredibly grateful to share that Mya’s Mission Foundation has received a report of a life saved using Narcan obtained from our Nola’s lounge Narcan box that is sponsored by Keller Paving!

The individual who shared their story has asked to remain anonymous, and we are honored to respect their privacy. What matters most is this:

A LIFE WAS SAVED!!💜

This is exactly why we believe in making Narcan accessible to our communities. Every box we place represents hope, compassion, and the belief that every person deserves another chance.

One of the most meaningful parts of this report is simply knowing. We don’t always hear what happens after someone opens one of our Narcan boxes, so receiving these anonymous stories reminds us that this work truly is making a difference.

To the person who stepped in to help…thank you! Your willingness to act changed the course of someone’s life.

To everyone who has donated, volunteered, partnered with us, or supported Mya’s Mission Foundation, this is your impact. Because of you, life-saving medication was there when it was needed most.

Today, we celebrate more than a report. We celebrate another chance. Another tomorrow. Another life. 💜

Some days grief feels heavier than others, but healing isn't about becoming who we were before loss. It's learning to carry love and sorrow together while trusting God for just enough strength to take the next step, one day at a time.

‼️WOW, DICKINSON… YOU JUST MADE MYA’S MISSION HISTORY! ‼️

Approximately 90 doses of Narcan were distributed from one box in just a few weeks!

After nearly a year of hard work, countless conversations, and refusing to give up, Mya’s Mission was finally able to place a public Narcan box in Dickinson. Last night, we received a phone call that stopped us in our tracks. The box was completely empty, making it the fastest Narcan box ever emptied in Mya’s Mission history!

Those numbers tell a story. They remind us that the need is real, that people are carrying Narcan, and that this resource is making a difference in our community!✨

This isn’t the record we hoped to set, but it is a powerful reminder of why we fought so hard to bring this lifesaving resource to Dickinson💜

If one person is alive today because a stranger had the courage to carry Narcan, then every mile driven, every phone call, every meeting, and every obstacle to bring this box to Dickinson was worth it. Because every life is worth fighting for!💜

Even when our office is closed, our mission isn’t. There are no office hours for hope💜 Because every life matters!

This box will be restocked today thanks to an amazing volunteer Randy Brenneise! Make sure to thank him if you see 👀 him!
