Southwestern District Health Unit SPF SIG Awareness and education about underage drinking and binge drinking in North Dakota.

In the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, youth reported that 69.2% DID NOT drink alcohol in the 30 days prior to completing the survey. We are still concerned about the 30.8% who are drinking.

Our youth are making good decisions. 82.3% of our high school students DID NOT ride with a driver who had been drinking alcohol.

The 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey shows that 87.6% of youth reported NOT drinking alcohol before age 13 - so NOT
"EVERYBODY" is drinking before age 13.

SPF SIG Quick Fact: Kids who have conversations with their parents and learn about the dangers of alcohol are 50% less likely to drink.

SPF SIG Tip: Before your teen attends prom and/or graduation events, talk to them about their plans. Know where they are going and who is driving. If using a rented limo, make sure they have a no-alcohol policy. Discuss school rules about alcohol use and the consequences for violating those rules. Do not rent hotel rooms for party goers. Southwestern District Health Unit encourages you to help your teen be safe and have good memories about prom and graduation.
