Dickinson Bayou Youth Paddlers are vital in the removal of litter and debris from the banks of the smaller tributaries flowing into Dickinson Bayou. These energetic youth clean bayou banks intermittently each week during the lower tide months of late winter to Spring. They removed 15 large bags of debris, pieces of broken canoe, pier wood and tree debris, 8 tires of various sizes, and much more. FORTUNATELY for our beautiful bayous and it's inhabitants, they also removed Water Hyacinth, an invasive species that will form dense mats of foliage on the surface that block sunlight and deplete oxygen in waterways. Our deepest gratitude to these youngsters for their tireless efforts in helping to keep Dickinson bayous safe for humans, fish and wildlife. *For anyone canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing, PLEASE REMOVE and properly dispose of water hyacinth immediately, thank you! Preserved then donated to the Dickinson Railroad Depot Museum by Clint Wolston, the Fairbanks Platform Scale suffered years of exposure in Galveston County’s harsh weather.

Recognizing that several remnants of this antique treasure could be salvaged—including the maker’s stamp from the historic Fairbanks Scale Company, Eddie Dues spent months carefully restoring the scale to its former glory.

Produced between 1885 and 1915, this late 19th- to early 20th-century scale represents an important piece of Dickinson’s farming and railroad history. The platform would have held sacks, crates, barrels or produce for weighing.

Eddie, you are truly a gifted craftsman! Thank you for giving new life to this remarkable artifact of our local history.

What a beautiful day, partnering with the Optimist Club of Dickinson on the Little Buddy Fishing Tournament in Paul Hopkins Park. Moms, dads and kids spent 3 hours together, away from screens and electronics, enjoying quality time in the breezy summer shade along the banks of Dickinson Bayou. A variety of fish were caught by these youngsters, the largest being an 28" alligator gar. (GO GATORS). KDB hosted a table informing attendees about drainage complications due to Fats, Oil and Grease being poured/scraped into household drains, and so called "flushable" wipes being flushed and causing major sewer congestion and backups. We also had pet waste bags available to assist pet owners in picking up pet waste and dispose properly in the trash, thus not allowing stormwater to push it into Dickinson Bayou. Such a great event! What fun participating with 35 adults and preschoolers in Dickinson Public Library “Storytime” at Paul Hopkins Park, June 24, 2026. Three different books were read to attendees featuring natural landscapes in which plants and animals need to thrive, as well as how human actions can impact these vitally important habitats. KDB volunteer, Laura Doherty, read “The Wild”, while son, Tucker Doherty, represented a trash can promoting recycling and spreading the message not to litter. Thank you Dickinson Librarian, Brianna Long, for the invitation to take part in summer Storytime again this year. Thank you Jenna Simsen Kristensen and the Dickinson Youth Action Council for inviting us to participate in your “Summer to Serve” event at the Dickinson Public Library on May 30, 2026. Such a great event that shares volunteer opportunities during the summer months for youth and adults. KDB also shared information with attendees on F.O.G. – Fats, Oil and Grease and proper disposal, as well as Wipes, even, as advertised as “flushable” wipes should never be flushed. Congratulations to our two game winners of $25 gift cards. Dickinson Community News City of Dickinson, Texas - City Government Keep Texas Beautiful Dickinson Bayou Watershed Partnership

Trash Bash 2026 (Dickinson Bayou site) welcomed 177 volunteers cleaning 2 miles of bayou and 3 miles of street ROW (ditches and swales). We had just under 90 Freshman Leaders in Christ from Texas A&M University, WHOOP, they truly were a Godsend as many of our regular volunteers were missing this year.
Four 30 cu yd dumpsters were filled with litter and debris, amounting to approximately 35,000lbs of waste, that will not be flushed into Dickinson Bayou in heavy rains or hurricane, the true purpose of the cleanup. Abandoned tires also present a problem to the bayou and the environment, 210 tires were retrieved from bayou banks, ROW, vacant lots, and backyards, and dropped off for recycling. A HUGE thank you to all our fabulous volunteers, especially our large groups: TAMU FLiC; Dickinson Scout Troop 696 Robert M. Bragg; Kranz Junior High Honor Society members; Clear Creek Environmental Foundation members; City of Dickinson, Texas - City Government awesome Public Works staff, and the Keep Dickinson Beautiful Board of Directors that worked tirelessly hosting this event. Well done everyone, thank you for helping to keep Dickinson, and Dickinson Bayou, clean and beautiful. We hope to see younext year!!
