Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe is hosting a Breakfast with Balcombe this Saturday, and we strongly encourage residents to attend. The event is an informal community meeting where constituents can ask questions directly.’
Representatives from the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection are expected to be there to answer questions about the County’s solid waste options and the future of the Dickerson Resource Recovery Facility.
A strong turnout from our community is important. Unlike the County Council work sessions, where Councilmembers are primarily discussing the issue among themselves, this meeting gives residents an opportunity to ask questions and make their concerns heard directly.
Why This Matters
Montgomery County is considering major changes to the way it handles solid waste, including alternatives to continued operation of the Dickerson incinerator. The County’s current Solid Waste Management Plan describes an ongoing evaluation of alternatives and steps toward eventual closure of the Resource Recovery Facility in Dickerson.
SCA supports moving away from incineration and closing the Dickerson facility. This Saturday’s meeting is an important opportunity for residents of the Agricultural Reserve and surrounding communities to learn more, ask questions, and make sure our community is well represented in the discussion.
