Emergency Animal Evacuation and Large Animal Sheltering. SCLAR is recruiting members. Please consider volunteering to assist El Dorado County residents during disasters. It's proven that many residents will not leave their pets behind and need assistance.
Applications are online or give us a call. We will help you get those processed for this fire season.

update (Wednesday, 7 am): The fire remains at 181 acres and is 15% contained. Throughout the day, crews will be monitoring for hot spots and continuing to strengthen control lines and mopping up. Please watch for fire personnel and equipment working in the area.

Southern California has been hit hard! El Dorado County has experienced this on a much smaller scale but devastating non the less. During times like these many want to jump in and help. Unfortunately, without proper vetting and training there is little you can do. SCLAR is the county's Animal Evacuation Team deployed by Animal Services under the chain of command of the OES. When deployed we are able to go behind road blocks to evacuate and or care for animals. We are also in charge of setting up and managing large animal shelters during an incident.
There are jobs for anyone wanting to assist. Clerical, animal care, trailer and equipment, phones, scheduling, and evacuation teams. We are a part of California CARTS (community animal response teams) and work closely with CVET out of Davis.
Applications are online. If you have questions or need assistance with the application process please reach out. We are close to the deadline to process new members for this fire season. Once sworn in as a Disaster Service Volunteer you can also be deployed as mutual aid to other counties if this interests you.
