The Transpacific Yacht Race is a biennial sailing race from San Pedro, California to Honolulu, Hawaii. And all odd number years since. Follow along here!

It is the longest of the two oldest ocean races in the world, which were first sailed in 1906. The Transpacific Yacht Race will sail from San Pedro, California to Honolulu, Hawaii beginning June 11, 1906.

Making it to the starting line is a victory in itself.

Months of preparation, countless hours of boat work, provisioning, crew coordination, and logistics all lead up to this single moment. Every team has sacrificed time, money, and energy just to be here. So when the starting gun finally fires, it's not just the beginning of the race – it's the payoff for all that dedication.

The next challenge? Getting to Catalina, then across thousands of miles of open ocean to Oahu.

First you say goodbye to Catalina. Then the California coast disappears astern. That's the price of admission. But once you're through it, the trades kick in and it's downwind sailing at its finest- pure speed, pure flow, like a slot car race to Hawaii. This is why sailors keep coming back.

While many of our Transpac sailors are seasoned and experienced offshore racers, there are also those experiencing the open ocean for the first time. 19-year-old Oscar Perry, who had just finished his freshman year at Cal Maritime Academy, raced aboard Santa Cruz 50 T/S Cal Maritime-Oaxaca. Not only was this his first Transpac — it was also his first offshore race.

When asked about his longest race prior to the 2025 Transpac, Perry's answer was as unique as his Transpac experience of getting hit with two squids, on two separate night watches: "Probably 15-20 nautical miles on an inshore course."

Transpac's 2,225-nautical-mile course might have been a massive sea change for Perry, but the excitement was evident in his voice. "I definitely want to keep doing them," he said of the race so far, describing moments such as seeing dolphins swimming through bioluminescence. "It's an awesome boat, an awesome team, and definitely a lifelong memory."
