Happy Thursday from the Sheltered Workshop!!

Please read and share - On August 3, 1976 the people of Stoddard County came together for the Stoddard County Sheltered Workshop and voted on a tax levy with all monies to be distributed to the Sheltered Workshop. The results of the county-wide election 4,836 Yes Votes, 2,211 No Votes. (It's no different than the recent Sheriff's Dept Tax or Stoddard County Ambulance District Tax that Stoddard County voted on and passed.). Those monies cannot be distributed to any other entity other than what The People voted for. While the broad scope of the MO State Statute states intellectual and developmental disabilities, the ballot language that was considered locally described the Sheltered Workshop only. (It would be like giving the Sheriff's Tax monies to Bloomfield Police Department, they both serve the community well and in similar ways, but that's not what was voted on by the people)

The SB40 Board is a minimum of seven members and is appointed by the Stoddard County Commissioners. The Board elects its own officers, including a Chair and a Treasurer and the Treasurer is legally required to furnish a surety bond to protect the board's funds. There is also a Vice Chair and a Secretary.

Under the records retention requirements, SB40 Boards must keep their minutes, By-Laws and Year End Reports as permanent legal and historical records. These documents are typically filed with or maintained on record alongside the Stoddard County Commission or Stoddard County Clerk. To our knowledge there are no By-Laws and we are unable to obtain the By-Laws of the SB40 Board.

We at the Sheltered Workshop feel for all the 501(c)3 non-profit groups out there struggling as we have struggled in the past as well. Many people are affected by these government cuts not just our disabled community, but our elderly, our veterans, our poor, our displaced, and the children in our communities. We pray for them daily and hope a day will come when no one will struggle or have to ask for help.

Sincerely,
Stoddard County Sheltered Workshop

We have been receiving a significant number of phone calls regarding the new recycling trailers for the City of Dexter. They are exceptionally well-designed. Please ensure that you examine both sides of the trailer, as one side is designated for aluminum and tin cans, while the other side is for paper.

Thanks, Vikki
