The Dewitt PBA membership pauses today to remember all those who lost their lives on 9/11/2001 as a result of the terrorist attacks. We also honor those who passed away in the years since due to the after effects of the response and recovery effort. Twenty years ago this morning, thousands of emergency first responders including Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Services providers moved toward the respective scenes of unfathomable chaos and danger as most civilians sought positions of relative safety farther away. 412 of those responders made the ultimate sacrifice and never came home to their families.
In the twenty years since, Dewitt Police Officers have faithfully served locally in our community, as well as nationally and internationally through military service. Members of this PBA have deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Cuba, and various other key locations in support of the Global War on Terrorism. We are especially honored to host a local 9/11 Memorial Site just outside our Police Department to memorialize the lives lost on that tragic day.
While we pray for peace, as your local Police Officers, we will always run toward danger to protect those we have never met. We are proud to serve you, privileged to work with you. Today, and every day, we stand in solidarity with all Americans who remember this world changing event, and the years of war that have unfolded since.
