The American Red Cross has declared only the second national blood crisis in its history and blood donors are needed now to avoid delay in patient care.

St. David’s will be hosting a drive on Fri. 8/7 from 1-6pm. Please schedule your donation appointment today at 1800REDCROSS or redcrossblood.org. As a small token of appreciation, all presenting donors will receive a $20 Amazon.com gift card by email.
The nation’s blood supply dropped 25% in June, triggering an emergency blood and platelet shortage declaration on July 13. Despite thousands of people who have stepped up to help, donations are still not keeping pace with hospital demand, and the situation has escalated. Extreme heat, poor air quality and widespread foodborne illnesses are contributing to lower donor turnout this summer. Blood donations have fallen to a four year summer low, worsening this summer’s emergency shortage. The community is asked to take action immediately to help save lives.

All blood types are needed, but the situation is especially dire for type O blood as the Red Cross is now limiting distribution of these blood products to hospitals. The supply of type O positive blood has now fallen below a one-day supply.
