Dave Ashby Memorial An annual 5K walk/run was established in 2021 to celebrate Dave and raise awareness about irregular heartbeat. Just under $25,000 was raised in the first year!

p with Simon's Heart, a nonprofit established to memorialize Simon Sudman who passed at 3 months old from the same undiagnosed cardiac arrhythmia, enables us to now enable tax deductible contributions through their 501 3c organization status! The event kicks off the Sudden Cardiac Awareness month on October 1, 2022. Event proceeds will be used to purchase AED (Automated External Defibrillator) machines and training within Dewey Beach and adjacent communities. Heart rhythm screenings will also be coordinated with local schools when possible to identify at risk youth. To my dear friends, family, generous, sponsors and donors,

We wanted to let you know that the race and donation websites are up and we’ve begun our 2023 efforts to raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and campaign to generate funds for AED donations in our local communities.

Dave’s Dewey Dash Memorial 5k Walk/Run will be held on:

Saturday, September 30 at 9 AM at the Rusty Rudder restaurant in Dewey Beach.

We are once again partnering with Simons Heart and all donations and sponsorships are 100% tax deductible.

Please save the date and join us on 9/30/23 as we celebrate my son Dave Ashby, who was taken suddenly by SCA in 2019 at the age of 28.

Although last year‘s race was canceled due to Hurricane Ian, we were still fortunate to raise $15,000 and donate 9 defibrillator/AED machines and training locally. Five of those machines help to restock the Dewey Beach police. Additional ones were given to Starboard Raw Restaurant, The Children's Beach House, PCAM and D.R.’s Lawn Maintenance. All in all we are protecting upwards of a half a million hearts! Thank you all for helping to make this happen!

One machine purchased last year by The Starboard restaurant in Dewey saved 3 lives in less than a year! (See article below)

Please consider including us again in your annual giving. We have an identified need for additional machines and training. Our beach community is a very busy place with many hearts in need of protection. We’d love you to be a part of this cause.

p.s. 2021 donations built the memorial patio which was finished 9/2022 and is definitely worth seeing when you visit Dewey this year (located at the end of Bellevue St. bayside; see below)
