An Introduction to Camp and the Path to First Class 🏕️

Trailblazers is a dynamic program for first-year campers, offering a fun and engaging introduction to Camp Wilderness and the Scouts BSA program. Scouts build confidence while learning and practicing essential Scouting skills on their journey toward First Class rank.

The program emphasizes hands-on learning, teamwork, and outdoor adventure—perfect for younger Scouts experiencing camp for the first time. A list of rank requirements completed in Trailblazers is available in the Resources section on our summer camp website.

🌟 Program Area Highlight: Fishing 🌟
Where Every Cast Could Catch “The Big One” 🎣

Our Fishing program is one of Camp Wilderness’s most celebrated offerings, combining fun, skill-building, and the thrill of reeling in a trophy catch.

Whether you’re a first-time angler or a seasoned pro, this area has everything you need: a spacious dock, 14' Lund motorboats, rods, reels, tackle, and bait. Our experienced staff will guide Scouts and leaders through techniques, safety, and the joy of angling.

Important Guidelines:

Youth must be accompanied by an adult who has passed the BSA swim test to use motorboats.
Motorboat operators require a MN or State Boating License.
Youth under 16: No fishing license required.
16 and older: Must purchase a valid Minnesota fishing license before arrival.

Whether casting from the dock or heading out on the lake, the Fishing program is a can’t-miss experience for all outdoor enthusiasts! 🌊🐟

Who says camp food can’t be gourmet? 😋🔥
At Camp Wilderness, our Cooking Merit Badge program gives Scouts hands-on experience in both camp and trail cooking — helping them build confidence, creativity, and outdoor leadership along the way.

🍳 Cooking 1: Camp Cooking
Held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday (9 AM–1 PM)
Learn meal prep, fire safety, and delicious camp recipes.

🥾 Cooking 2: Trail Cooking
Held Monday & Tuesday evenings (6–9 PM)
Focuses on lightweight, nutritious trail meals — perfect for backpacking Scouts!

Both are partial merit badge sessions, packed with flavor and fun.

Cool Off, Dive In, and Build Skills on the Water 💦

When the summer heat kicks in, there’s no better place to be than the Camp Wilderness Waterfront! 🏕️
Here, Scouts can sharpen their swimming and boating skills in a safe, structured, and fun environment — guided by our experienced and enthusiastic aquatics staff.

💧 Merit Badges Offered:
• Swimming & Canoeing — great for beginners and younger Scouts
• Kayaking & Lifesaving — perfect for older or more experienced Scouts

🌴 Additional Activities:
• Snorkeling 🤿
• Stand-Up Paddleboarding 🏄‍♂️
• Boardsailing 🌬️

🏊 Open Waterfront Fun:
Daily open swim and boating from 3:00–5:00 PM, plus extra time during Adventure Days, gives Scouts a chance to enjoy the water on their own terms!

🧭 For Leaders:
Adult leaders can earn Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense certifications to support their unit’s aquatic adventures.

Get ready for an unforgettable ride! In the ATV program at Camp Wilderness, Scouts start by completing the ATV Safety Institute’s Safety Rider Course, earning official certification before hitting the trails. 🦺🏞️

From basic handling to advanced maneuvers, each session combines hands-on training with real trail time, giving Scouts the skills and confidence to ride safely.

🌄 Adventure Awaits:
Once certified, Scouts explore miles of trails across Camp Wilderness property — accessing remote areas few get to see!
