We want to extend a huge congratulations to our Director of Comms, Imani Foster, and our Board & Founding Member, Ines de Jesus, for being awarded the Skillman 2026 Visionary Award.

The Skillman Visionary Awards recognize individuals who are shaping the education system and how young people experience it. At their core, the awards reflect a simple idea: lasting
change happens when people across classrooms, communities, and policy spaces work together to build an education system that better supports the well-being and potential of all
students.

“Across Detroit and Michigan, there are people doing the hard, often unseen work of strengthening public education. They are building trust, opening doors, and creating new possibilities for young people every day,” said Angelique Power, President & CEO of The Skillman Foundation.

“The Skillman Visionary Awards recognize that leadership and invest in
it, because when the people closest to students have a voice in shaping what comes next, real change begins to take root.”

Together, they reflect the education
ecosystem, from educators and organizers to policy influencers, business leaders, and media
voices.

Checkout our awesome Communications Director, Imani Foster's, piece on the importance of Detroit's next mayor centering our students.

"So, to our future mayor, whether it be Sheffield, Kinloch or a write-in, we don’t need another mayor to stand on the sidelines as our education system continues to decline.

Be the mayor Detroit’s students need, and create clear systems between the city and the state’s largest public school district. Make it your responsibility to prioritize our young people, to listen to them and support the programs and resources they’d like to see. Instead of curfews and tickets that penalize our young geniuses, let’s cultivate their brilliance and pour into their potential."

"We must find sustainable ways for the city’s elected officials see themselves as integral to the success of our young people."
