๐Ÿ“ข Take Action for Open Caption Access in Michigan!

Introduced by State Senator Stephanie Chang, Senate Bill 0764 (SB 0764) would require open captioned screenings in Michigan movie theaters to ensure Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing residents have equitable access to films and public entertainment experiences.

This legislation is a major step toward removing communication barriers in everyday community spaces especially in movie theaters where access has historically been limited or inconsistent.

๐ŸŽฌ Open captions are not optional. They are essential communication access, not a luxury.

Under SB 0764, theaters would be required to provide regular open captioned screenings, helping ensure consistent and predictable access for all moviegoers.

๐Ÿ“ข Take Action for Hearing Access in Michigan!

Introduced by State Representative Emily Dievendorf, HB 5436 would require health insurers to cover hearing aids and related services, including audiological exams, fittings, maintenance, and repairs, with coverage of up to $3,000 per hearing aid every 36 months.

Hearing aids are essential tools for communication, education, employment, and daily life, not a luxury.
