👣Every step supports women and girls in Southwest Detroit. Mercy Education Project provides free education so every woman and girl can take her own steps toward a future of her choosing.

This September, we're launching Walk to Mercy Day, our first-ever Walk, and we built it so there's a way in for everyone. Set your own pace and walk whenever it fits your schedule, or join us in person at MEP on September 17. Start a fundraising page and ask your network to support you, or skip the page entirely and give directly. Can't walk or give right now? Spreading the word counts too.

However you take part, it all builds to Mercy Day, September 24, when we'll close out the Walk with a celebration at MEP. It marks the start of our countdown to the 200th anniversary of the House of Mercy Catherine McAuley opened in 1827. 🌹

Wow! We are so grateful for the hands-on week our 18 Innovation Lab STEAM Campers spent making crystals, building soap, and exploring water filtration. Thank you, Project Scientist and Trane Technologies Detroit, for helping our girls see themselves in STEAM fields. Congratulations to Lopez De Paz, MEP's graduating senior this year! Lopez graduated from Cass Technical High School and will attend Oakland University in the fall to study bioengineering. A spring break college tour through MEP's College and Career Readiness program gave Lopez a firsthand look at OU's campus, a visit that helped finalize the decision to enroll there.
Lopez is the third of four De Paz sisters to graduate high school and all four (Wendy, Dalia, Lopez, and Andrea) have participated in MEP's programs for multiple years. Andrea, the youngest, will enter 12th grade this fall.

Our Emerging Leaders two-week summer day camp is a wrap, and what a way to kick off the season! 💙

Campers spent two weeks exploring nine amazing Detroit destinations, including Green Living Science, the Detroit Institute of Arts, Kid Chemist, the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center, Matrix Theatre Company, the Michigan Science Center, Detroit Abloom, Detroit Dye House Home Of Brightlytwisted, and the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation, with daily team building and leadership activities woven throughout. 💪🌿🔬🐝

From analyzing art at the DIA to meeting a baby opossum at Detroit Abloom, these young women showed up curious and explored their way through the city. This is always one of our favorite ways to start our summer here at MEP.

Students will design water filters, create bioplastics, and explore how chemistry connects to everyday life, health, and sustainability thanks to Project Scientist curriculum.

MEP is partnering with poet and author Jacqueline Suskin to guide young students through a poetry and writing intensive inspired by nature.

🤖 Our middle school GET-IT Club participated in the 2026 Robofest Official RoboParade World Championships, and what an experience it was at Lawrence Technological University ! With an Animal Kingdom theme and teams from around the world, our girls proudly represented MEP and connected with students from countries like China, Egypt, Ghana, and Mexico. 🌍
While we didn’t place, our team pushed through challenges, made it past the first round, and gained invaluable lessons in teamwork, resilience, and staying calm under pressure. 💡✨
We’re so proud of their creativity, determination, and growth. These talented girls are just getting started! 💪💙

What an unforgettable night! ✨ On May 7, MEP’s 20th Annual kicked off with a vibrant cocktail reception and our new “Raffle with a Twist,” where staff and volunteers championed six mission-critical goals for MEP. We were honored to welcome 10 incredible alumnae, including Jennifer Gonzalez-Hernandez, whose powerful story reminded us how MEP helps women take flight toward meaningful careers.
