🤎 THE VILLAGE DIDN’T STOP AT THE BABY SHOWER. 🤎

A few weeks ago, we hosted our Community Baby Shower and together we provided thousands of dollars worth of diapers, wipes, clothing, baby essentials, educational resources, and support to families across Metro Detroit.

What we learned was simple:

The need doesn’t end when the event is over.

Mothers need support every day.
Babies outgrow clothes every few months.
Families need diapers, toys, books, maternity wear, and postpartum resources year-round.

That’s why we created the
Detroit Mom-to-Mom Exchange by Melanin Motherhood Haven
A free community where families can:

✨ Give when they can
✨ Receive when they need
✨ Share resources
✨ Build connections
✨ Strengthen our village

No selling.
No judgment.
Just moms helping moms.

Join the group and invite a fellow Detroit mom who would benefit from being part of our village.

🤎 Village Builder Spotlight: Nyah 🤎

Today we are proud to recognize Nyah as one of our incredible Village Builders who helped make Melanin Motherhood Haven’s Community Baby Shower a success.

Nyah’s donation went beyond baby items—it supported mothers through pregnancy, birth recovery, postpartum healing, infant feeding, and early childhood development.

Her generous contribution included:

🍼 Diapers and feeding supplies
🤎 Two postpartum recovery boxes
🤎 Peri bottles and postpartum care items
🤎 Belly bands and recovery support products
🤎 Earth Mama Herbal Sitz Bath
🤎 A Motif Medical C-Section Dressing System
🤎 Pregnancy and parenting educational resources
🤎 A Chicco stroller
🤎 An Ingenuity bouncer

With an estimated value of nearly $500, Nyah’s donation provided essential support to families preparing for pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and life with a new baby.

Because of generous Village Builders like Nyah, Melanin Motherhood Haven was able to serve 41 families and welcome more than 70 attendees at our Community Baby Shower. Every donated item found a home, ensuring resources reached the mothers and families who needed them most.

Thank you, Nyah, for helping us build the village and for investing in Black mothers and babies throughout Detroit. Your generosity made a real difference.

Please help us thank Nyah for supporting our families and strengthening our community. 🤎🍼✨

🤎 Behind Every Successful Event Is a Team of People Willing to Serve 🤎

As we continue reflecting on our Community Baby Shower, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible volunteers who helped make this event possible.

While families were arriving, gifts were being distributed, games were being played, and resources were being shared, our volunteers were working behind the scenes to make sure everything ran smoothly.

They unloaded donations.
They sorted clothing.
They assembled gift bags.
They helped with registration.
They distributed resources.
They answered questions.
They cleaned up.
They stayed late.

Most importantly, they showed up with servant hearts and a commitment to supporting Black mothers and families.

Because of their dedication, we were able to welcome 41 families, serve more than 70 attendees, and ensure that every donated item found a home.

Community work is never done alone.

It takes a village.

To every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and love to this event—thank you. Your impact reached far beyond a single day. You helped create a space where mothers felt seen, supported, and celebrated.

Please help us show some love to the amazing volunteers who helped make our Community Baby Shower a success. 🤎🍼✨

🤎 Every Gift Has a Story 🤎

As we continue reflecting on our Community Baby Shower, we wanted to share just a glimpse of the incredible gifts and resources that were distributed to families throughout the event.

Because of the generosity of our sponsors, donors, Village Builders, and community partners, mothers left with diapers, wipes, clothing, books, breastfeeding supplies, strollers, car seats, baby gear, postpartum essentials, and so much more.

These weren’t just gifts.

They were moments of relief for a mother wondering how she would afford the next pack of diapers.

They were resources for families preparing to welcome a new baby.

They were reminders that our community is strongest when we take care of one another.

This year, Melanin Motherhood Haven’s Community Baby Shower served 41 families and welcomed more than 70 attendees, and by the end of the event every donated item had found a home.

To everyone who donated, sponsored, volunteered, and believed in our mission—thank you for helping us build the village.

Because when Black mothers grow, communities thrive. 🤎🍼✨

😂🤎 “I brought you into this world and I’ll take you out!”

One thing about Black mamas—we all grew up hearing the same sayings.

Our “Finish the Saying: Black Mama Edition” game quickly became one of the highlights of Melanin Motherhood Haven’s Community Baby Shower. The room was full of laughter, storytelling, and shared memories as mothers, grandmothers, and families finished the phrases that have been passed down through generations.

More than a game, it was a reminder of the culture, wisdom, humor, and village that connects us.

This year, our Community Baby Shower welcomed 41 families and saw 70–110 community members, volunteers, vendors, and supporters rotate through the room throughout the event.

From the packed room to the smiling faces, every moment reminded us why this work matters.

When we create spaces where Black mothers feel seen, supported, and celebrated, something special happens.

The village shows up. 🤎🍼✨

🤎 A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS & VILLAGE BUILDERS 🤎

Before a single family walked through the doors, before a single diaper was distributed, before the room was filled with laughter, resources, and community—there were people who said YES to supporting Black mothers.

Today, we want to recognize and celebrate the sponsors, donors, community partners, and Village Builders who helped make Melanin Motherhood Haven’s Community Baby Shower possible.

Because of your generosity, more than 30 families were able to receive diapers, wipes, clothing, books, baby gear, car seats, strollers, educational resources, and so much more.

And by the end of the event, every item had found a home. We didn’t take a single thing back with us. The resources, supplies, and gifts that were donated went directly into the hands of the families who needed them most.

Every donation mattered.

Every sponsorship mattered.

Every share, volunteer hour, referral, and act of support mattered.

What started as a vision became a packed room filled with love, encouragement, and tangible resources for Detroit families.

To every sponsor featured here: thank you for believing in our mission and investing in our community. Your support helped us remind mothers that they are seen, valued, and deserving of a village.

Please take a moment to show these incredible organizations and individuals some love. They helped make this day possible. 🤎🍼✨

Two years ago, Melanin Motherhood Haven | Support For Black Moms was created to meet a real need: safe, affirming spaces for Black mothers in communities impacted by systemic neglect.

Over the last two years, we’ve built and sustained impact-driven programs like Mom’s Melanated Milk supporting Black mothers with culturally competent breastfeeding and nutrition education, The Food Island Project , working directly in food deserts to restore access to fresh, affordable food through community gardens, greenhouses, and education, and Homeschooling Help for Black Families, created to support, resource, and connect Black families navigating homeschooling with confidence and community.

These are not theoretical problems.
Food deserts are real.
Maternal health disparities are real.
And our response has been real work with real outcomes.

Today, Melanin Motherhood Haven stands proudly as a 501(c)(3) certified nonprofit organization, strengthening our ability to serve, advocate, and build long-term solutions rooted in community, tradition, and accountability.

Two years of impact.
Two years of building what was missing.
And we’re just getting started. 🖤✨
