Detroit Kettering and Southwestern vs. Detroit Diehards Charity Basketball

Detroit Kettering and Southwestern vs. Detroit Diehards Charity Basketball Former Detroit basketball foes - Kettering and Southwestern - teamed up for a charity wheelchair basketball event on June 22, 2013 at Detroit's Cass Tech.

Back in 1983, the rivalry between Detroit Kettering and Detroit Southwestern high school basketball teams was one of the most contentious in the history of the Detroit Public School League (PSL) boys' basketball. Attendance to watch the two battle for the city championship at Cobo Hall topped 10,000, one of the all-time largest turnouts. Both schools represented the Detroit Public School League al

l the way to the MHSAA State Basketball playoff before losing to eventual state champion Flint Central, Kettering in the semifinals and Southwestern in the title game. On June 22, at Cass Tech High School, the players from those famed 1983 teams will hit the court again. But this time they'll be donning the same team jerseys. Alumni of Kettering's "Supreme Court" basketball team and Southwestern, led by Antoine Joubert and Clarence "Bill" Jones, will team up to raise funds for students at A.L. Holmes Elementary-Middle School and to raise disability awareness. The Pioneers and Prospectors will face the Detroit Diehards, a National Champion wheelchair basketball team.
