The Steering Committee met on Thursday, December 11, at the Forest Park Apartments Community Room. Steering Committee Members met to discuss and provide feedback on the initial housing concepts, including:

✅Parks and open spaces

"I lived in the community for 20 years."

🤝🏽Why did you become a Community Advocate?
"After many years of seeing both struggle and resilience, I felt called to use my experience and voice to help support and uplift my neighbors. It's important to me that no one in my community feels overlooked or without support."

🔎What are you looking forward to getting out of this experience?
"I am already gaining a strong sense of connection and purpose as I work alongside others who care about our community. I look forward to seeing these efforts grow into real, lasting change for the people around me."

Approximately 35 residents gathered to review the initial draft housing concepts for the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan. Residents provided their feedback on the following elements of the housing concepts:

✨Youth Engagement Workshop Recap✨

The Youth Engagement Workshop was held on Friday, September 19th at the Detroit Housing Commission's Envision Center. Approximately 20 youth residents gathered to provide learn more about the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan and share their vision for the future of the neighborhood. Youth residents gave feedback on:

✅Learning about Planning
✅Designing their ideal community

As we continue to engage residents, it is important to include the youth perspective as they are also living in and experiencing the neighborhood in their own way. Using their imaginations, youth residents designed their ideal community that included lots of parks, athletic fields, community gardens, and more housing. 🏞🏀🏡

The Planning Team met at Forest Park on Thursday, September 18th to engage residents in the larger Forest Park/Eastern Market neighborhood. A small group of residents gathered to learn more about the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan. In this open engagement event, residents gave feedback on:

✅Community Survey
✅Early Action Project
✅Future development in the neighborhood

✨Community Meeting Recap ✨

The Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan held a community meeting on Wednesday, September 17th at the Forest Park Apartment Community Room. Approximately 40 residents gathered to review the findings of the Needs Assessment Survey and continue to engage with the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan. Residents gave feedback on:

✅Early Action Project
✅Future development in the neighborhood
✅Created a collective vision for the future of the community

Residents also had an opportunity to play 🚨Family Feud🚨 as they reviewed the results of the Resident Survey. Participants were split into two teams and competed against each other to get the most questions answered correctly. Winning teams received a prize! 🎁

Thank you to all the residents that came out and engaged with us! This is YOUR plan! Be on the look out for the next set of events.
