✨Pop-Up Events Recap✨

The Pop-Up Events were held on May 14th outside of the EnVision Center and Forest (Pepsi) Park. Approximately 60 residents of Forest Park Apartments, Diggs Homes, and the surrounding neighborhood gathered across both events to prioritize and provide feedback on the draft People + Neighborhood strategies. The goals of the meeting included:

✅ Prioritizing the People + Neighborhood strategies
✅ Introducing the mural artist, Oshun Williams, and gather feedback on potential mural concepts

💵Participants prioritized strategies through a fun, budgeting activity that allowed participants to use fake money to vote for their favorite strategy.

Information gathered from this meeting will help determine which strategies should be prioritized as the Plan moved forward.

✨Community Meeting Recap✨

The Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan held a community meeting on Wednesday, May 13th at the Forest Park Apartments Community Room. Approximately 25 residents gathered to prioritize and provide feedback on the draft People + Neighborhood Strategies. The goals of the meeting included:

✅ Sharing progress on the Early Action Project
✅ Defining and prioritizing the People + Neighborhood strategies

🔴🟢 Participants were asked to vote for their favorite People + Neighborhood strategies utilizing a worksheet and sticky dots. Votes collected from this meeting will help to determine which strategies should be prioritized as the Plan moves forward.

The Steering Committee met on Thursday, May 7th, at the Forest Park Apartments Community Room. Steering Committee members met to review and vote on the People + Neighborhood Strategies for the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan!

The goals of the meeting included:

✅ Defining and prioritizing People + Neighborhood strategies formed from the Working Group meetings
✅ Sharing progress on the Early Action Project
✅ Introducing the contracted artist for the Early Action mural project: Oshun Williams

📄 The feedback provided by the Steering Committee members will help to refine the strategies that will go in the Final Plan.

📝The Resident Needs Assessment Survey was completed in the summer of 2025 as part of the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan. The survey was conducted at the Detroit Housing Commission’s (DHC) Forest Park Apartments and Diggs Homes. The survey asked residents questions on the following topics:

✅Housing
✅Neighborhood
✅Employment
✅Education
✅Health
✅Safety

📊Data collected through this survey will be utilized to create the Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan, and shared with other partners to implement programs that will support the needs of residents.

The "Neighborhood Vision" is a collection of ideas and hopes that will help shape the future of the Greater Forest Park/Eastern Market Neighborhood. Residents have shared stories and provided feedback on what they would like their community to be in the future. Some themes include:

✅Introducing new housing types to the Forest Park/Diggs site
✅Access to fresh + healthy food
✅Connections to Eastern Marker and other amenities in the neighborhood
✅Improved play areas for the youth
