According to a March 2026 Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. Census data, the Black immigrant population in the United States has more than doubled since 2000, reaching 5.6 million people. African- and Caribbean-born immigrants now make up 11.2% of all U.S. immigrants.

African-born immigrants increased fourfold between 2000 and 2024, from approximately 600,000 to 2.4 million. Caribbean-born immigrants number 2.5 million. Together, these two communities account for the overwhelming majority of growth in Black immigrants in the United States over the past two decades.

Almost all of the top 10 birthplaces for Black immigrants are in Africa or the Caribbean. New York City has the most Black immigrants of any metropolitan area, approximately 1.1 million. Miami is second, followed by Washington, D.C.

A 2024 analysis of U.S. Census data finds that sub-Saharan African immigrants participate in the civilian labor force at higher rates than both the overall foreign-born population and people born in the United States.

77% labor force participation among sub-Saharan African immigrants, compared to 68% among all foreign-born residents and 63% among people born in the United States. Among specific-origin communities, Nigerians and Ghanaians report participation rates of 79%, the highest of any immigrant group nationally. 44% hold positions in management, science, or professional fields.

This community is not on the margins of the American economy. The barrier is not participation. It is access to the capital, systems, and institutional infrastructure needed to convert that participation into generational wealth.

For eleven years, this community has shown up. Now we are building something that shows up for them. Forever.

We are happy to announce the launch of The GABA Foundation Endowment.

So that the people who need us most always have somewhere to turn. So that eleven years of work becomes a foundation the next generation can stand on.
This is what permanence looks like for a community that has too often been asked to prove it deserves to exist.

The first generation plants the seed. The second generation tends it. The third generation lives in the shade. We are building for all three.

When you invest in the GABA Foundation Endowment, you are not writing a check. You are writing a chapter in a story that will outlast all of us.

Eleven years ago, we made a decision.

We would show up for Michigan's African and Caribbean families with the same commitment, care, and conviction that this community has always shown the world.

Today, we are proud to share the GABA Foundation's 2025 Annual Report, a full account of what this community, this board, and this team poured into this year.

Entrepreneurs found their footing. Scholars were celebrated. Families in crisis found relief. Legislation moved. A marketplace took shape. And a community that has always been ready finally had the infrastructure to prove it.

None of this happens without the people who believed before it was easy to believe. Our board. Our partners. Our scholars. Our grantees. The families who trusted us with their hardest moments.

This report belongs to all of you.

We are not finished. We are not slowing down.
From Michigan to every corner of this country, we are just getting started.

On International Women’s Day, the Global African Business Association (GABA) recognizes the extraordinary role women play in shaping the future of global commerce, logistics, policy, and innovation.

Across Africa and the global diaspora, women are leading transformative work in supply chain development, international trade, advanced technology, and economic diplomacy. Their leadership is central to building the infrastructure of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and strengthening economic bridges between Africa, the United States, and global markets.

At GABA, we remain committed to advancing policies and platforms that expand women's participation in global trade, empower women entrepreneurs, and elevate women leaders in sectors such as logistics, energy, agriculture, and technology.

Economic development is strongest when women are fully represented in leadership, policy, and global markets.

Today we celebrate their leadership and reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive global economy.
