Happy New Year to all United Nations Association USA, Greater Detroit (UNA*USA-GD) members, friends, and supporters!
I am Belinda Evans Ebio, President of UNA*USA-GD. On behalf of our Board of Directors, I invite you to our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 22, 2026,
from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at First Congregational Church of Detroit, 33 E. Forest@Woodward. Free parking is available behind the church building if you enter from Forest Street. UNA*USA-GD Members receive a complimentary full-course dinner (Herb-smothered chicken, Eggplant Parmesan, Sweet Potatoes, Fried Cabbage & Collard Greens, Garden Array Salad, Buttermilk Biscuits, Assorted Cookies/Brownies
and Lemonade); non-members are charged $25.
Our theme is Environmental Justice, and we have an engaging program ahead with City of Detroit, District 2, Councilwoman Angela Whitfield Calloway, JD, as
our guest speaker. She will update us on the progress of questions concerning arsenic and lead-contaminated soil that was discovered in some Detroit neighborhoods following
recent demolition projects. Councilwoman Calloway’s focus on the safety of Detroit, with a reach beyond city boundaries, align with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, which supports inclusive, healthy, and resilient urban development while addressing issues like poverty, inequality, and environmental concerns.
Ms. Regina R. Strong, Environmental Justice Public Advocate with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy will also join us. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to meet the 2026 Dr. Chrystal G. Tibbs Humanitarian Youth Award recipient. Our chapter aims to support teens who create outstanding community
projects.
So, we invite you to come out and help promote a healthy, sustainable environment for all and renew your dedication to strengthening the UNA*USA-GD chapter as a leading voice
for environmental justice and peace.
