Choose to reuse this Zero Waste Month! Bringing your own bags to the store, filling up that water bottle and skipping the Ziploc's are just a few easy ways that all of us can prevent waste.

Even after this International Zero Waste Month comes to a close it is up to us to continue to choose reuse and encourage our community to do the same!

Happy New Year and Happy International Zero Waste Month from Zero Waste Detroit!

This International Zero Waste Month we are advocating for real change by calling for investment in zero waste! It is up to us to put pressure on our governments and politicians to invest in the green, equitable solutions we want to see in our communities. All month we will be sharing tips and resources for going zero waste as well as information on how to better advocate for change in your own community!

Michigan's beautiful natural environment is ours to protect! Under this current administration environmental organizations are facing unprecedented challenges to continuing our work. That is why next week ZWD will be co-hosting the Detroit Ours to Protect community forum with the at !

This event is a community conversation about how to create stronger environmental protections in the face of federal funding cuts and challenges to environmental protection.

There will be time to network and get to know others doing similar work in the community and open discussion pressing topics related to protecting Michigan's natural environment.

Last week our Executive Director, Deborah Stewart Anderson presented alongside members of our CURES project team at the Innovations and Emerging Technologies in Environmental Health Symposium at Wayne State!

ZWD is working with the Wayne State Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES), Henry Ford Health and Just Air to monitor and gather data on air quality on the east side of Detroit near the Stellantis plant. Residents of this area have faced unequal burdens related to pollution and air quality and we are working with these organizations and area residents to advocate for change.

The team presented on how we are centering community engagement in this work to ensure that the most affected residents have the opportunity to be a part of the solution!

Last week we joined in Lansing for the Master Composter Facilitator Training to learn about how to bring composting education to our community in Detroit! Thank you to the Michigan Organics Council and Michigan Recycling Coalition for a very informative training!

Exciting news! Zero Waste Detroit is partnering with the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives to bring educational programs about reducing waste to Detroit communities! Waste or overuse of resources is the number one contributor to harmful greenhouse gases being released into our environment. We each have a responsibility to take charge of our personal waste to help improve public health and quality of life for Detroiters.
